Camoplast A/T plastic ski's

The latest and greatest added to my beloved snowmobile, is a complete set of Camoplast All Terrain Plastic Ski's. I opted to these for a couple of reasons. One being there made here in the GREAT state of Michigan. So why not boost the local economy? And I got a killer deal thanks to a local shop. These ski's are not your typical ski. They are the ONLY blow molded ski. SO enough said, here is my review....
This is what comes in the box...

The Skis, are an extrodinarily wide to give you the extra lift when your in the powder, and the carbides I went with are Woodys 6 inch Trail Blazers.

Here is a view of the old steel ski, along with the new camoplast. Top View.

The Bottom View.

You can see the bottom of the ski has a huge difference. Its almost like a tri-hull boat bottom. The theory is interesting, we shall see if it works later in the season.

Installation was a snap. All the hardware was included, which came with metal mounting brakets, new bolts, and bushings, an spacers. Also was included brand new rubber pads to keep the skis from tipping. See below.

Once the brackets were installed and along with the new Woody Carbides, it was a matter of 30 mins to shimmy the new skis on. Everything seemed to line up great. And the finish fit was near perfect.

The average cost of these skis is in the ball park of $220, with carbides. Depending on what you want it could cost more or less. They make a trail only ski, which is significantly narrower. THe original steel ski and carbide came in around 15 lbs per ski. The new plastic ski came in around 5 lbs per ski. That is a rough measurement, but do the math, thats 20 lbs less!!!

Visit the website at Camoplast

And like I said, its a local business in Coldwater, Michigan.

Ebay has them listed for $220 with 4 inch carbides, and I think the hardware is included in that price. I upgraded and had Woodys 6 inch Carbides thrown in. It came to about $220 also, but the dealer also owed me big time, I think with all the hardware and the carbides I had it was originally $270.
The all terrain ski cost more, about 20 dollars more. Than the trail only ski.

Thanks for the input. I think this forum topic can really help us ALL!!!

I have had both styles, the normal width, and the extra wide skis on my sled. The skinnier ones I found were alot more aggresive, while the wider ones were not as aggresive. The downfall of the wide ones is that I found that they seemed to float TOO much going through corners, and the front end would get a little squirrley. I was able to get that taken out with more carbide.

Overall, I found that both styles are AWESOME, and I would recommed them to anybody.

Do what ever fits your budget. Ski skins will eliminate friction anf help your sled move easier. And they will add very minimum flotation.
Plastic skis, eliminate friction, eliminate massive amounts of weight, look better, and perform better.
But again, do what fits your budget. Camoplast is the cheapest of the plastic skis out there I believe right now, you can spend anywhere from $200 to up to $800 dollars per pair.
