Snowhawk Insurance
Hello all, I'm currently attempting to insure my Snowhawk, however ever insurance company I find either won't insure it, or I have to already have an insurance policy with them. Does anyone on here with a snowhawk that has insurance? Any good insurance ideas? Foremost refused to insure it but suggested I find a small insurance company. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time,
PG

Polaris offers insurance. I can't remember the link right off hand though. Like Foremost Ins. said. Look at independent insurance agents. They usually have better deals than the big companies offer. By the way, welcome to the forums.

Thanks, It's been a while. I sold the 650 last year and almost decided to not get a sled...that woulda been a mistake. Anyway I've heard about Polaris offering insurance, however do they only offer it for their sleds? I'll search around for the link but just figured I'd ask, thank you for your time,
PG

Doesn't it have a Polaris engine in it? Might be a point to let them know...

Yes, the "Hawks" have Rotax engiines in them (600 HO & I think a fan cooled option). I would check with State Farm Insurance Company. Anything with a V.I.N # can be issured (or so I would think?!)

Well I did try state farm, however they stated that it was required for me to have homeowners or an auto policy with them. I'm not sure If State Farm insures NJ drivers?
Anyway, the 600 Snowhawk is the 600 LC Rotax motor found in Ski-doo's. However these have a hp rating of 115hp, while the Rev's have 120...i think?. The only thing performance wise that is different that I can tell is that the snowhawks aren't oil injected, and that it doesn't have a chain-case, they have drivelines similar to a Hardley (belt drive). I'm not sure if this would affect hp, but if it does... '
It's not that they say it isn't insurable...they just think i'm going to kill myself. The most common response I get when they find out what a snowhawk is, and see its picture, is..."due to the performance capabilities and ergonomics of this snowmobile, we can't offer insurance at this time." So here I am. I found a few smaller insurance agency located in NY that I'm going to try, and I was told by State Farm that Ryder now offers insurance for sleds...If those don't work, I am going to try to add it onto my allstate policy, however that will cost me...and if that doesn't work...who knows. Any more ideas will be greatly appreciated, sorry for the long post,
PG
PS: Companies I have tried...State Farm, Clemens, Dreyden, AAA, Formost, Geico, Liberty Mutual, and Progressive.

Probably hard to get insurance because of risk assessment is unavailable. Insurance is paying someone to assume the risk for an unlikely/unwanted event. I suspect there is no case history for an actuary to assess a risk probability matrix. For example, if you hit a tree , or roll it what are the likely damages? I checked www.nada.com and emauiled them about depreciation on a SnowHawk. No answer. You could insure it for theft. What kind of insurance are you looking for?

You could try Progressive insurance. Try giving them a call at 800-progressive or progressive.com . Because it's not a very popular sled you might have to have a "agreed value" policy. Which means that basically you set the dollar amount you want to insure it for. However, don't go too high of a value though, you want to stay right with what the sled is worth. The insurance company owes the "agreed value" or current value of the sled if you total it. Kind of a catch 22. Hope that helps.
