We could do the loop. From Gaylord to Jordan Valley, and circle around back to Gaylord. ???? Or from Gaylord to the North Branch trail, loop around to Frederic and back up. There are a few options, and we have time do discuss what trail to start with, and do a different loop the next day.

What ya all think?

I don't care where we go. Like IRS said. I don't want to do an out and back run. I'd rather make a day of it and take some sites in, and get to meet with my new friends and there families and such. There are alot of options. A guy I worked with went from Alanson over to Roger City, then Down to Grayling, then went over to Jordon Valley then back north. It ended up bein about 250mi loop.

I was thinkin maybe head south from Gaylord then cut over to Mancelona, then north to jordan Valley. We have to stop at this one spot though. It's called Dead Mans Hill. It's a scenic lookout lookin over the Jordon valley. It's an awsome site to see. I've never seen it in winter though. I think it's right on the trail to jordan valley. Then after jordon valley I was thinkin heading up to Chandler hill area then to Indian River. From there, I don't know. Maybe head over to Alanson then to Mackinaw City. Then turn around and head back to Indian River, then down the old R+R bed to Gaylord. I haven't figured out the mileage though. I don't think it a 250 ride though. It's just an idea. Like Rida said we have plenty of time to make a final destination.

PI500. I was just jokin about the titty bar thing, but I do know where you are talkin about in Rapid City hehe.

it's the green spot due west of Gaylord on the map.

I just did a rough mileage estimate. If we went through Jordon valley and up to Indian River and back, it would be about 150mi. roundtrip. As for how long it will take I don't know. I guess it depends on alot of factors. I would think almost allday unless your all a bunch of crazy ppl...lol. I am

oh yeah...

about the trails, we need to pick several loops, vote and so be it...b/c everyone knows different ways to get to the same spot. i just dont wanna see us all arguing over where the he|| were gonna ride

or we should just have one loop one day (saturday), one loop sunday, and if anyone wants to ride on monday its up to you to plan w/ the other riders

i think that loop being 150 mi is a good distance. it cant too long, and if it's too short, we can go otu and ride or just hangout. it should be a good length though, but like i said im not familiar with the type of riding or how the trails are.

There are alot of ways we could go. I know that when the season draws closer, more MI members will be back to the forum. It wouldn't be fair to the other members if we made all the plans now. I'm sure that they'll have some input that they would like to add.

Just close your eyes and think about this. WAIT, DON'T CLOSE 'EM YET. YOU HAVE TO READ THE REST OF THIS!

Picture 41 snowmobile forum members and there sleds from Michigan riding down the trails of Northern Michigan. The only smell you smell is octane. I can't wait to post the pics.

just wondering, what is everyone's riding speed? you just kind of cruise, or do you go pretty fast? doesnt really matter to me. i think, especially if it's a large group, it wouldnt be flying through the trails. biggest group i rode in was like 56, or maybe there were just 56 people that went to the trip.

Everyone has different ideas on what trail to ride. That's great because there's plenty of options. That's the beauty of it! Maybe we can choose like 3 Mod's to plan this and then take a vote on what trail to ride on what day. Sounds like this is getting going right now, so might as well keep the thread goin! As far as other members, maybe they can be PM'd about it. Although some member's might need rides up north from parent's, unless they are interested too. Throw your thought's out there, I'm sure we can come up with something for sure.
Hey Lockey, bring your wife if you want, but what you going to do with mommy g? j/k
I might ask my wife to go, but she will be covered up.
Bring on your thought's!!

like i said, my dad is kind of finicky about riding. he likes to ride with people he knows, so he knows the pace and how everyone rides. he also has a thing about michigan. i have never ridden there, but he said there are a lot of people who race bar to bar just to get hammered in areas, and you gotta watch out at night for them. im sure i can convince him to go if this happens though...
I don't imagine that we'll be riding like banshees because alot of us have never ridin together and we don't know how big the group will be by the time this thing rolls. I do know that on the way to Jordon Valley there will be some wide open fields to open up on if you feel the need. I think that if we keep a decent pace, and use our hand siginals, we'll all stay safe. Let me pose this question. You know your father better than anyone here. How does your father usually ride when he rides? I'm sure that we'll ride at a comfortable pace on the trails. I know that in my area, the trails are pretty much 2 tracks. Just wide enough to fit 2 sled side by side.IRS know what I'm talkin about.

By the way guys, I had SEG post that map in the trail condition forum. Thanks SEG

he's a lot like me-- riding is riding. but he likes to be in the back so he can play around a bit more, and if he wants to get on it he can slowly sort of slip back then catch up quick.

all that riding stuff can get worked out on the trail...i know where your all comming from, but right now i think that its important to plan the trip and the routes.

from the looks of it, we have a good show of hands as to who will go. yes it is important to let the other mi ppl know about the ride, but when the time comes i think we should have seg make a sticky (once we've worked out all the details) in the midwest forum (or here) for all the mi ppl to read. i mean when they come back they will have to read like 800 pages in this thread to keep up.

so i think we should plan now, make a sticky w/ all the details for others to read, and then meet up when the time comes

just my .02

oh yeah, i think my old man wants to come...so i may have another rider comming as well. looks like snowrida your boarding room might be on hold, cuz if thats the case we might just get a hotel. or if you dont mind, ill bring 2 cases, one from me and one from my dad...its up to you tho...hope your thristy

oh yeah, if there are ppl who want to get a hotel someone (or i) can make all the reservations or see where we all wanna stay that way we can all ride together to where we're gonna start or w/e

sry for the long post, but i had some stuff to say

it all depends on the trails and who he's with. up in quebec, with the usual 4 or 5 guys and no one is around, he said they can do 90 in parts. in NY, we do a slow pace and kinda take it easy. in ontario it's a mix. we'll do anywhere between 35-50 ish.

and i garuntee there wont be any problem from us no matter what routes we take. ill talk to him friday (parents split time), an see.

because that's another thing about rides like this, knowing everyone's comfortable pace. i dont think that's gonna be a problem here.
I think that he'll be just fine riding with all of us. Like PI500 said. We can workout those details on the trail.

So I put a 150mi ride out on the table. I will put another route out on the table. We could go down by Grayling and loop around back to Gaylord. By the looks of that loop, it would be about the same distance.

Another thing that I just thought of is the local ordinances for snowmobiling. I know they've changed the odinance in Gaylord(where and how you can ride in town). I will try and call the Chamber of commerce there. If we do decide to make that Grayling loop I will call the chamber there also. If someone already know these ordinances, please post them so that we can all get an idea.

I know you can't ride in the town (downtown) of Gaylord any more. Not sure about Grayling.
