Need help with voltage regulator change
Hi All.
This forum provided the answer on where to find the voltage regulator on my sled, so I figured it was a good place to get help with the replacement. I bought the replacement because my head/tail lights burn out as soon as I replace them, and the grip-warmers are smokin' hot. My dealer said it's got to be a faulty voltage regulator. They sold me an after-market replacement and said to just replace the wires that are on it with the same color wire on the replacement.
My confusion is that the new VR has four wires coming out of it (yellow-red-yellow-black). The original one has a plug to make replacement easier. There are only three wires coming out of the old VR. The plug that it's connected to it has four wires, but the fourth wire (black) doesn't enter the VR, it just grounds it by attaching to the mounting bolt.
I'm thinking I should cut the wires close to the old VR and attach them to the new VR, so the plug is still there for easy connection. I just don't know what to do with the black. Should I crimp and eyelet onto the black wire and put both black wire eyelets (one from old, one from new) to the mounting bolt. Should it be that easy?
I took a picture of the old one and new one but I can't figure out how to attach an image. Seems like I can only link an image - don't know how to do that.
Thanks for any help
