I need help on figuring what went wrong with my sled as im no mechanic.

Its a 2001 polaris xcf 440 sp with a fugi engine, and this is what happened:

I started hearing a clinking in the motor that kept getting louder, at first i
thought it was a vibration. The next day i went and started it up and it warmed up for about 10 minutes and it still was making that clinking noise. So about 15 miles later riding it at about 20 mph it slowed down and there was all sorts of clinking and clanking and sort of a grinding noise coming from the motor. So i shut it off right away and towed it home, thinking its a bearing but i dont know. I need some suggestions and advise to figure this out.

Start with a compresdsion test!

Don't bother with the compression test, tear if down and replace pistons and whatever else got damaged by the metal pieces pounded around in there.
