This is getting Old REALLY fast!
I love snowmobiling, and it's one of my favorite things to do no doubt, but these winters are just getting pathetic. Lately, I have had absolutely no urge to ride anymore. Around Christmas, we got pounded and trails were open for around two weeks and conditions were really good in most areas. We then got hit with a hard January thaw and have had nothing since, and nothing in the forecast. When will we ever see a consistent winter again? I put over 700 miles on in the time we had and then sold my sled. I cant justify having the thing sit around losing value. My brother even went out and bought a 2008 Ski Doo and look where it is now, In the shed on the lift covered up. I had big plans for next year like a newer sled, new gear, the whole nine yards but no way am I spending that much money on a sport that is just getting worse and worse for conditions. I'm bored and just felt like putting this out there.

Re: This is getting Old REALLY fast!
I don't know why, but it seems to run in cycles. We get several below average snowfall years in a row, then we get pounded for a couple years, then it repeats itself. At least that's how it seems to go in upstate New York. The way I see it we should be in store for some monster snowstorms by next year.

Yea I do feel lucky in what I have gotten in for riding but it still doesnt justify having a sled around right now for me atleast. I want some 1500-2000 miles local winters like we had several years ago. Those were the best, when trails were open almost all season and snow was pretty frequent.

you fellers need to look towards the sunset and plan your futures accordingly.
never seems to be much of a lack of snow over this way.

Tell me about it. Bought my first sled a week ago and all the Kemptville area trails are closed. . I'm sure we'll get more snow but yeah, the melt and lack of snow kinda sucks (never thought I'd hear myself say /that/! LOL)
On top of that, I put my back out on Monday at the gym. Bloody sore. Chiropractor gave me a couple days off work while it unseizes. Hopefully it's better by the weekend and fingers are crossed we'll have a few trails open around here by then!

Reason #1 for never buying a new sled! My sleds are 10+ years old, and i'm perfectly happy with that. I paid about the same for both of them that people spend on a new open top trailer. If I do travel some place, these guys stay at home and I just rent while i'm there.
(used mine ONCE last year, and maybe 4 times this year. The rest of the season isn't looking promising.)

There is decent snow around here, not very deep but rideable. I've got my fingers crossed because February seems to be our best month for riding. As far as the value of my sleds, I try to buy cheap in the offseason so if I sell them a year or two later, I won't be in the hole. I try not to consider sledding an investment, it's just fun to ride when the weather works out!

got room for around eight, maybe more if you know each other well. ride from the house normally through may. march and april might be good months for you flatlanders. february is always good.
check out Elk River, Idaho, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, ATV, motorcycle for a idea of what the area has to offer and lets take it from there.
pack enough people and it should be a cheap trip.

That would get old FAST... I'd probably give up riding altogether if I had to drive that far just to ride.
