ok carbs are so clean i could eat off them, i have gas, i have spark, i have no mouse nest, it almost wants to start but wont quite fire if that makes sense. Its only first pull that it wants to fire. Has not actually fired. When i cleaned carbs one side (drive belt side) the adjustment screw was 1 3/4 turn from bottom, other side was 3/4 turn so is it possible that it is wrong and its flooding out with excess gas and cant fire??? This is a new to me sled 89 skidoo voyager 503 has 2700 miles on it. The only reason i bought it was its retarded clean. Inside hood looks brand new. is there a way to test is its getting ENOUGH spark???? Can a sled get some spark....i mean it has spark....but can it get some but not enough or is it spark or no spark...any advice on what to do next would be very helpful.

Try holding the throttle wide open and pull it several times. If it's flooding, that should help. My Doo is very tempermental when it is warm. If I don't hold the throttle open, it will not start. Also - try new plugs just for grins. Sometimes I swap mine back and forth on the Doo. It will usually start with the fresh set (even though it's the same set that it wouldn't start with last time).

A weak coil will produce spark, but sometimes not hot enough to fire an engine. If the above doesn't work, I'd go there next.

so the new update. Friend advised that i take plugs out and pull 10 times then spray ether in holes put plugs in and then try. Well that is what i did and got it to run 3 seconds. As in 5-10 revolutions. Now its getting even more crazy that is all i can get. did this about 500 times. IDK wondering why it is i like snowmobiles LOL is there a way to test coil pack?

THANKS FOR THE HELP WILL TRY THAT TONIGHT.

If it is running on starter fluid, I'd abandon looking any farther with the coil. You're probably NOT getting gas to the carbs. I'd go looking for fuel in the lines. If you disconnect the lines from the carbs and have a friend pull it over a few times while you watch the lines - you should see fuel pulsing out of them. If not, I would head towards the fuel pump as the culprit.

BTW - if your starter fluid does not have some type of oil in it, I wouldn't advise using it too much. Make up some pre-mix (50:1) gas and pour that in the cylinders instead.

Last thought... have you checked compression? If it is low, that would make it very hard to start, even with starter fluid.

Re: !!!Cant start snowmobile!!! need help!!!

What i do when dont get gas to the carbs (works like a charm) 1, pull fuel lines off at carb. 2, take gas lid off and blow air into the tank to pressurize it (pushes fuel into the pump to prime it) i would suggest you hold the pressure until it releases or you wil get a face full of fumes. Keep doing it until you can see the gas coming out of the lines (just a drop out of each line is enough) then pull the cord up to 30x and fuel should start spitting out a little each pull. Keep going until all lines spit fuel. You can also use containers to catch the fuel, although it will only be a tablespoon total loss. Hook it back up (to the carbs) and start it on starting fluid. You might have to start it couple times depending on how much you use, this is so the carb bowls can refill and start sucking gas up the jets. Goodluck!

ive taken carbs back apart went through them again every thing is in place. All looks clean. I am leaning towards a compression test as the prob. i had to take shroud of off top of motor and tried starting it and smoke was coming out from middle of engine. Under the head i dont have a book for this sled but that seems like a bad sign. I am getting that same plug wetter than the other one every time.

Might just be a gasket issue. When I bought my Polaris, whoever did the previous rebuild did not get one of the jug gaskets on it correctly. I ended up pulling the cylinder and putting a new gasket on. The thing that gave it away for me was the oil spray inside the engine compartment... thought it was coming from the PTO bearing area, but finally traced it to the cylinder gasket.
