The "Tour BuddY"
I was trying to figure a way to extend my riding distance on my 2001 800XCSP. It likes to drink the go-go juice. Then someone turned me on to the Tour Buddy.
What a great idea.
Here are few pic of mine installed in my machine.
So if you're looking to extend your riding distance and dont want jerry cans taking up space on the back, here is the way to go!
P.S. I am not a salesman or spoke person for them, just a happy customer

Is it model specific?
How much does it hold?

Although I like the idea, I also see the problem... Rip a belt while blasting across a lake, and now instead of the belt flying off and maybe thumping your hood, it rips open the gas tank. The contents of the tank now get flung all over the hot engine/exhaust...
Not saying that would happen, but a belt whipping around at 8000+ rpm has more than enough energy to destroy the belt shield, so it could easily rip apart the tank. it would be one of those freak things that rarely happens, but when it does, KABOOM!

I have thought of the possible of that, I am going to fab a piece of 4"wide 1/4" flat stock to help do 2 thing.
One support the tank and 2 help protect against belt detonation.

2.8 gals is a lot of weight. Does it affect handling? Does it empty FIRST, then take from your main tank? Seems like a great idea...

Yes the buddy drains first. Watch the YouTube video it shows how it works. As for handling I haven't had a chance to give a true run yet.

Total weight would be about the same or maybe less than an electric start on a snowmobile, so not that much overall. Given the target market is going to be long distance cruisers who probably spend most of their time on the trail with a big 2 up 4 stroke, it probably won't matter much. The mountain guys already strap a couple of cans on the back of the sled.

You could, just not automatically! Consider it a worst case spare tank of gas stored under the hood that you would have to dump in.

RJ why couldn't you? First do they make it for your machine and as long as your fuel tank has a vent, it should work. Give them a call. Really knowledgeable, Chris will give you the answers you need.
