Jumping speedometer needle

I have an 04 rev. Summit 800. When it is idling, the speedo needle jumps from from 0 to 120. The tachometer, lites, hand warmers, all seem to be working. I assume that would rule out a bad relay, voltage regulator. It is electric start. This started after putting in a new battery and trickle charging it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think that just means that the gauge is bad. My dad has a truck that the speedometer gauge jumps sort of like that but not when its idling.

If it's jumping at idle and the sled isn't moving, it would indicate an electrically driven speedometer instead of a mechanically driven speedometer. I would be looking at wiring and grounds and the sensor that sends the signal to the speedometer.

You can't use an electrically driven speedometer quitting as an early sign of bearing failure like you could with the old style. My speedometer quit on my 700, the sensor was bad, the bearing was fine. Replaced the sensor, no more problem. There's no drive key to shear as the bearing fails in the new system. I kind of liked that "early warning system" built into the old mechanically driven speedometers.

maybe you bumped some wires when you put in the battery.

So, on the newer system the bearings just fail and you're SOL??????

You'll notice it when the driveline falls out, I'm pretty sure

I talked to the Polaris mechanic about that, the housing around the bearing is huge to allow for the pickup for the sensor. It's also a sealed bearing. It's not even necessary to grease it, even though there is a grease fitting. It looks to me like the grease would contaminate the pickup to the sensor for the speedometer. He has not had to replace a bearing on an IQ sled yet. That is at least a bit encouraging...

If you put the battery terminals on the wrong side would that create a situation like this? A friend of a friend of mine did that to his four wheeler and it messed everything up pretty bad. I assume its completely different scenario but I'm just checking, because I just found out my sled has a battery
