93' Yami Exciter II eating belts! HELP PLEASE

hey guys, been a while since ive been on here but just picked up a yami exciter 2 and the thing runs like a dream. I went out the first day of a trail ride and after 20 or so miles it ate up the belt. then i threw the old spare that probably was from 1993 itself on the sled and not even a mile down the trail it ate that one too. I then bought two new dayco belts from fleet farm. I threw the new belt on and today it just ate the belt again after about 100 miles of riding..just curious if the belt was the cause or is the clutches getting hungry?? the stitching that holds the belt together on the outer edge of the belt came out and it just came apart from there but the funny thing is none of the belts have just completely blown apart, just seems as though the belts are just tearing away from the clutches...any ideas??????

Rust on the sheave faces?
Sand them down with fine grit paper [200].

Take a carpenters square across from the spark plugs to the secondary! If anything you want the clutch side of the engine to be just forword of square, so that when under load it is square! Sand the seves and blow it out real good! And when putting the belt on be sure you can read the lettering from that side of the machine!

eating belts? can you be more specific?

from what i read it sounds like the edge cords are fraying?

clutch alignment, as mentioned, along with other possibilities.

broken motor mount
wrong belt
worn or sticking clutch components, wrongly calibrated clutch, or too high of gearing can all add to excessive heat in the clutches.

belts usually tell a good story about what is going wrong.

Is there a possibility that my actual clutching might be bad?? or how reliable was yamahas clutching system back in the day because i usually only deal with polaris sleds and this is a comlpetely different thing i have had to deal with with any kind of sled before. belt was put on right.

yamahas base line clutching has always been close, same as the poos your used to. granted, always a bit of performance left on the table, but if your familiar with polaris clutching, the primary is near identical in concept. the secondaries to differ considerably but the same principals apply.

there is always the possibility of an ill set up on clutching, but that would be the result of someone else.

alignment is alignment, regardless of sled. just imagine thats a p-85 down there!

seems as though my secondary is out of line...what can i do to adjust it? saw that there are like washers behind the secondary when i pull it off the actual spindle of the jackshaft. can i just buy some washers from like a hardware store and add them on or is there something else?? i used the carpenters square and it seems like there is a little gapping (about a 1/16th in.) between the spark plug(closest to the primary) when i have it rested on the secondary. when it comes to the belts, the belts are seeming to be wearing where the threading is on the outer edge of the belt that keeps it together. there was major clutch dust in and around the primary clutch so took the air hose and blew what i could out of the it. was alot of clutch dust. still dont have a clue what the problem is or what i should do
