121" track in powder?

I am a first time snowmobiler and just bought a 02 mxz 800. It has a 121" track with 1 inch lugs. I think all that off trail riding looks sweet, i am not talking like hardcore mountain riding or anything like that. Just like messing around in powdery fields and off the beaten path. Is that possible with such a short track?

i have a 96 formulaIII 600 with a 121x1in track,
on a trip to the UP in 09 i was going thru
2.5 feet with ease, a couple times when
uphill for a while i was wishing it was a 136in
or a 1.25-1.50 track.
but she did churn thru, just slower than the
144inchers i was with.

Expect to get stuck. Learn how to get unstuck. Go ride until you get stuck again. Repeat until you are out of gas.

You need to upgrade your rear suspension to accommodate a 144" ,155",or a 155" you have plenty of power with that 800 you just need to improve your footprint

I've taken my ZR with 121 into some really deep stuff many times. If you keep from getting bogged down, you can carve through. That 800 will trench very easily if you don't control your rpm, but do as BC-Dan says. When I'm running in the deep with a 121, I sometimes run out of gas before the sled because of getting stuck.

I have the 121 x 15 x 1" predator {paddle style} track on my Wildcat and it will go anywhere I care to try to get into when off trail. 3' or better of wet lake effect snow does not slow this down at all and it will go better than a lot of the newer longer tracked sleds do.

But do you want to trench and struggle I'm not much of a flat lander I guess.. I have a 121 zr and does well in what we call hero snow not powder, my old Polaris project has a 144" finger track with 2 1/2" paddles I did lift the front and rear suspension to get rid of the plowing effect that you sometimes get from deep powder

It will do just fine just stay on the gas lol.

1.25 would be ideal but 1" will do fine in moderately deep areas with a 800 no problem. Were not talking mountain riding but 4 feet of ditch snow yes it will be fun.

As soon as you let off the gas though you will bury it.

Watch out for objects.

The 1" paddles are going to limit you more than the length of the track will.

Again here in the flat land that sled with a 144 would over heat!
You will be perfect!
