'70 Elan for me, that thing was scary. All I remember is freezing my rear off and getting stuck a lot. Which wasn't too bad, just pick the sled up and move it to better snow

I just got finished browsing another snowmobile "enthusiast" forum... I give you mods mad props for keeping it the way it is here.

The IQ's must be far lower there, because most members in the threads are swearing as if it is just first nature.

The administrators here do a nice job of keeping it clean and friendly. Once in a while someone gets a little out of line, but they set them straight pretty quick.

i initially thought they were a tad uptight... but seeing other places with members constantly insulting another, f bombs all over, and avatars of kids showing the finger... it is something i have come to appreciate here instead!

Dan-

I have a LOT of interests and belong to dozens of forums. There are a lot of very knowledgable folks in some of these forums but I've never seen anybody that knows as much as you do about sleds. I'm continually amazed at the breadth of knowledge you have about so many different sleds.

As I approach retirement, I'm trying to become more self-sufficient when it comes to maintaining my vehicles. People like you who are so willing to share their experience make a HUGE difference to those of us who are less mechanically inclined. You are patient with people (like me) who ask rookie questions and are humble to boot!

I look forward to your next 10,000 posts!

-Brian

Gee, Brian.. those are nice things to say. We have a bunch of really smart folks on this forum that are helpful and willing to share their experiences. Thanks for including me in that group

Now, send some of your snow south, will ya??

I'm approaching retirement as well (I keep saying 3 bad days in a row and I'm outta here!) Hopefully, that will give me more opportunity to ride and to play in the garage. There's always more stuff to do or learn!

You really want to see how this site is, hang out over the off season and see all the build and overhaul posts.
Some of us never go away.

Two seasons... riding season and fixing season

We should do more pictorials in the summer to keep more of the members active in the summer. Good idea!

I bought new sleds so I could avoid fixing them as long as possible :-)

Of course, if I had a nice shop like some of you guys, I might actually enjoy the repair side of things.

Congratulations! That's a lot of posts, and a lot of good advice given. Thanks!!!

I joined here 2 months after you did. At that time, I was living in NY and just getting into the sport. Back then, I couldn't relate to the guys "out west". Now I've moved across the country and become one of the guys out west. Funny how fast time flies by, and the changes it brings...

It is different out here, isn't it? Us "out west" guys can't relate to the "lets take a ride and we can gas up here and here and here and here and put 200 miles on in a day. And we can stop for lunch here, snack here, dinner here. And don't forget the bar hoppers! And riding right from your house on a HUGE trail system. Trailer? We don't need no stinkin' trailer

It's all sledding, we play with the cards we were dealt, as the saying goes! But breaking things and fixing 'em.. that part is pretty universal!

I've said in many times 'Regardless of how new the sled is, they all break when you hit a tree!'
