Northern Vintage Snowmobile Racing Series Questions

Couple of questions about the NVSRS,

First i will be racing in the 85 and Older Fan 0-400cc Class oval track.

The sled I will be using is an Arctic Cat Jag 3000, the skis, carbides and track(has cleated track) are in great shape and engine runs great.

My question is will the sled but somewhat competive, I am doing this for fun and not looking to be the fastest one yet but would like to hang with the group.

Can you stud the cleated track?

Is a cleated track junk for racing on the ice?

Thanks everyone!!

Welcome to the Snow Show! The cleated track is perfect for ice raceing! Yes it certainly can be studded! Look and see if your 2/3 cleats are pop rivited or bolted! You can drill out the pops and add the bolts with stars! and or 1/4" carbide stud with T nuts!
The 340 stock motor wont hang with the serious racers! Most are running a 400cc single!

The cleats are not the full width of the track as with older Cats, they are actually 3/4 width cleats.

I owned one of those engines. I would not be very competitive. They have really small ports and there's not a whole lot you can do to make it competitive. It would still be fun though you just probably won't be in the front. The best you could do is put smaller twin carbs on it instead of the single carb and clutch it. Not sure if the rules would even allow that. I know there's quite a few rotax 377 twin carb fans in that class and those little engine's really run good with some tuning. They would be really hard to keep up with using the 3000 series single carb suzuki spirit motor.

2/3rds cleats means just that, the steel cleats go 2/3rds the way across, the next goes 2/3rds the way across the other side! This way the track will flex to be able to turn! A full cleated track will just go straight! The 400 single came from a Polaris 4 wheeler I believe! If you could find a Suzuki 399 that would be where I would start!

Thanks guys,

@ZRTEETH, The class is a stock class i will be running in and no mods are allowed. You have to run the engine and clutch that came with that sled. I guess i will start looking for 377 rotax sled

@Kccats, Thanks again for your help, looks like i might be using a different sled now.

You should have no problem finding one. They built alot of the 377's (moto-ski and ski-doo). Some of them came with only a single carb though. It depends on what model you find.

Ok update the track to a rubber one better to be safe then sorry. For yourself and other racers!!! Rubber tracks are better then and safer then cleated tracks. If they werent every race orginization would still be running cleated tracks.

My ZR is faster then your ZR
