perhaps the bolt was missing due to the wrong clutch probability?

i would suggest comparing whats on there now as to what should possibly be on there. theres numbers on both the cover as well as the spider and the fixed sheave.

the cover with the date stamp should also have a number on the inside. my experience with polaris clutch fitment is limited, but i can tell you i have two clutch pullers that fit most polaris models and the one for 2000 and up is significantly different than the pre- 2000 and i know the bolts securing the clutch are different.

perhaps that guy that calls himself BCDan could chime in or you may try and direct him to this thread as he seems to be slightly more knowledgable on the polaris primaries than myself and he will usually have some sort of link to some key info pertaining to the situation.

i am quite confident in my experiences that the 2000 and up clutches do not directly bolt to the earlier models, at least not with the rmk's in 700 or 800 that i have dealt with.

If the clutch never had a bolt in it, or perhaps it is broken off in there? It may be missing because of the angle wont let the threads start? My Cat pullers go in to the threads and bottom out inside the crank! I had a 48" pipe wrench holding the outer sheve and a 1" breaker bar with a 6' pipe on it! And twisted the puller like a cork screw!
If you can get the spider off and a grinder with cut off wheel will get you to atleast see the end of the crank?

The taper on the 90's vintage Polaris P85 primary clutches is 1:10 30mm in size. The problem is the offset. Polaris has labeled all their primaries P85 so it's difficult at best to tell which is which. A clutch from any triple will fit on your triple. Some Fuji twin clutches will not work. There are more than a few pullers, as well. I think I have 3, and I just choose the one that will fit in the clutch to pop it off.

If you can find a clutch that is from a Fuji triple engine, it should work fine.

My puller goes in and screws but seems like its binding on something and not being able to get all the way to the crank. Posted picks of it yesterday. But BC Dan where is the clutch part number located on the front plate of clutch. Kinda wanna make sure this is the wrong clutch? And thanks for the info. Love this site.

I have never located a number on a Polaris clutch that corresponds with a part number in the web page. Polaris makes you pull your hair out with their numbering system. The model "P85" is used for the old Fuji twin clutch, the Fuji triple clutch, the narrow roller clutch, the wide roller clutch, all the Liberty engine clutches, even the bigger 33mm ones. Not to mention, what do they call the secondary? You got it. A P85. Good grief.

Browse

This is a link to the Polaris parts website, you can locate your clutch number here and see if you can find any numbers that match up. Good luck

Got the clutch off. Used a portable ban saw i it was actually very easy one cut and everything popped off. Put pics on in a lil bit. Crank checks out good, need seals tho. Not to mention a clutch.
