Cool Studding a track

I have a 2010 Bear Cat XT. I want to stud the track. The local dealer wants $600. I know some guys that stud their own and saved some $$. Can I save much? If so where should I buy the studs and tunnel proctor? Thanks

You can usually get studs and everything for around $3-400. It's not hard, especially with a two ply track. Just time consuming.

96 studs is about all you would need! They are about $100 for a complete set at swap meets! Then a track drill and templete another $15! And a few hours! No big deal, I did my little ZR in the back of my box truck on the way north to St Germaine!

My sled has a long track and extra wide 22" so I am not sure if the standard pattern will work

Is it a 136? Then you will need 108 studs. A V patern down the center is best, stay out of the outer belts!

Do a search for Snowmobile swap meets in your area!
Do you really need tunnel protectors?

I thought that all sleds needed them to protect the tunnel from the studs.

I've never used any and most of all my sleds are studded!

I would also recommend the tunnel protectors. Pretty cheap and easy, so why not?

Does the track come close to the rear heat exchanger? I had to instal them on my 2003 skidoo because the track runs real tight to the tunnel.

Would you guys ever do used studs? Sometimes you see them for $50, just curious if they're still good and if anyone has ever done them.
