96 ultra 680 vs 96 xlt 600?
Accidentally posted this in the wrong area. My question is why does my xlt sit way higher in front and in back than my 680. I see on the tunnels that they bolt up in different spots. Whats the difference. Everything on the 680 was just gone through two years ago ( suspension wise). Just got the xlt

They have different suspensions. The Ultra has an xtra-10 (rising rate) suspension. The XLT has an xtra-12 (falling rate) suspension.

How hard would it be to put the xtra 12 on the ultra

It's not difficult, it takes a bit of effort and the mounting locations have to be exact. Measure twice, drill once!
The xtra-12 suspension is a "plush" suspension, designed to give a comfortable ride on the trails. The xtra-10 suspension is more robust and is more resistant to bottoming. There have been a ton of guys that have swapped older suspensions for the xtra-10, not so many for an xtra-12.

My understanding is the X10 is a much better suspension!

Most people making the switch are going from even earlier generation sleds like the early 90's. The xtra-10 is great for boondocking and takes a hit much better than the xtra 12. If you do near 100% trail riding and never get the skis off the ground, the xtra-12 may be what you need. Sleds with the xtra-12 are probably the most comfortable trail sleds out there for those years.

I dont know if I'm gonna commit to changing yet. Still waiting on my clutch puller to see whats up with the xlt. Clutch or crank. I'm hopin i can just slap a new clutch on and fix the other minor things. Xlt is gettin fuel in one cylinder but not the other two. So ill prolly tear into the carbs tomorrow.

x10 is a much better suspension, i would not do the swap. the x10 is a good suspension for the trails, the x12 is like riding an air mattress with a slow leak... it gets softer as you compress it. the x10 will take the load and actually push back the harder you ride. plus the x10 has better geometry. less of an approach angle for more top-end, less height so better on the slides as well. my GF has an xlt exactly like the one you just got. decent sled, but if i could get rid of it for ANYTHING else without losing my shirt i would.
