Spent some one on one time with my sled
One down and one to go!
For anyone interested I'm using a polish called F1. it comes in three grits. This is the medium grit. I found it at my local Perterbuilt dealer.
The tunnel looked prety much the same as the side of the trailer when I started.

I spent some time with my sled last week too. Long story short, fuel expands when it gets hot.... I will say at that moment when I pulled the cover off, it really made me get all nostalgic and stuff. Just chilling there in all her glory. Now I remember why I clean her good before I put'er away.

Nice work! I loved my 04 800 RMK with the 151, it was identical to yours (if yours is an 800!) You are making that thing better than new!!

Yep its an 800. I could not pass this machine up. It is an 04. I paid a little on the high side for it $5250.00 but it had 234 miles on it when I bought it. The guys son bought a sled and told his dad to buy one, so he did. Went out three times. The son moved and eventually sold his led so this one sat all these years. Was a little hesitant buying something that has been sitting for so long but so far so good (have only had it out twice). She smoked real bad for about the first 10 miles and then cleared up. Ran it off of the premium mode until the good gas and octane boost got through the system and then she ran like a champ.
Just put the handle bar riser set up on, haven't tried it out yet with this configuration. I love the 600 144" track, so I'm pretty pumped about the 151" and 800. My daughter is pretty excited that she get the 600 all to herself although she has kicked me off the 800 already lol.
I also LOVE the fact I have two of the same sleds for parts, maintenace reasons. The 600 has about 800 miles on it. Still lots of life left in it.
All shined up and no place to go!!! :-)

I liked the 600, too I had a 2005, wife loved it! I would still be riding that 800, had I not had a little fire in my trailer that burned up my sleds...
To keep your engine safe, I would send the primary clutch off for balancing. The crankcase on the 800 is iffy, getting a wide bearing kit on the crank and balancing the clutch may keep you from having serious engine damage in the future...

SLP does balancing. They will also rebuild as necessary. Give 'em a call, nice folks there.

You would think I work there as often as I mention SLP! But I don't.. just appreciate great service when it shows

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to keep a real close eye on the crank. I'm goiong to dial indicate it to get a base line and watch it carefully. if I so much as see the smallest
movement its coming apart.

Dial indicators don't really tell the whole tale. The crank in a snowmobile is pressed together from several pieces. Your crank can be totally out of whack one second (such after hitting a big jump) and then spin itself back into a normal condition and back into spec. It's pretty amazing to watch a crankshaft flex on slow-motion video.
That said, having a crank in spec on the dial (.000"-.004") won't guarantee the crank is good, but having a crank way out almost always indicates pending failure. It's a good tool to have in the toolbox.
Here's a pretty interesting video regarding crank runout testing

That guy knows his stuff for sure. So is it a balance problem with the 800s or a block problem that isn't able to support the crank.... or both.

Mostly a block problem that leads to crank failures.

I think it's both. No balancing from the factory (the video guy is right, I have had a few 700 and 800 cranks on my bench and none of them had balancing marks) and weak, porous cases that get beat out of round by the crank. The wide PTO bearing helps by spreading the force over a larger area in the case. Balancing the clutch helps by minimizing external out of balance forces. The further away from centerline of the crank the problem is, the greater the force, so the clutch plays a pretty big role.
I wonder how long a balanced crank that has zero runout running with a balanced clutch would last? That would be an interesting experiment.
