Will it?
Some of you may have seen my thread where I was talking about getting my first sled. Hopefully this weekend or next I will be going to look at a 98 zr 600 efi, I think the price is pretty fair, if anything its a good deal compared to similar sleds. Obviously I will check the compression and probably run it through the rpm's on a stand, but what else should I look for other than obvious damage. Also if anyone has any idea if it will fit in my truck(Ram 2500 Quadcab) I would like to hear about that (I think it should fit).

Ok yes it will def fit in any truck. may stick out the gate but it will fit. dont put it in backwards it will lift the hood up from the wind.....lol
Just see if it has a good belt.. if it has a spare.. how clean in general it is.. really stand on it and shake it around see if the shocks are blown. if so start low-balling.
anything can be fixed if it has good compression and looks good not a beater id take it home for the right price! good luck

He says the rear shock was rebuilt last year and that it recently had a new stator, as for price when I talked to him he said he was firm but for the price he is asking and the supposed conidtion of the sled it is definately the right price. Just hope it ends up being as nice as it seems because it is about a 3 hour drive.
Edit: Also forgot to ask, it is black...most of them I have seen are green, was that just the le for that year?

Make sure you tilt the sled on it's side so you can see the bottom... that can tell you a bunch about how the sled was ridden and how it was cared for.

The Le Black might be the Limited Edition with adjust on the fly shocks! There should be a large adjuster knob on the bars. And if it is in good shape and around 3k miles it should be worth $1800?

The pictures I saw were not at a great angle but I do not think it has the adjustable shocks from what I can see, especially since he did not mention it at all.

If the rear shock was rebuilt it may have been remover? There would be a notch in the hood at the handle bar?

If it has been removed that won't cause any problems will it? Also if it has been removed could I get the setup from a parts sled and put it back on?
Also how many people do you think it would take to lift a sled into a truck? 3?

Two people should be able to get it into a truck. Both of you put the skis on the tailgate then one pulls it forward and the other lifts the back and pushes.
When you arrive to see the sled, first feel the exhaust pipe before starting it. If it's warm, it's a sign that the owner started it before you got there so it will start easier. Check the skis to be sure they're alligned and free of damage, check the track to be sure the lugs are in good condition and the studs aren't pulled out, if the track has any. Other good things to check are the fluid levels such as antifreeze and oil. If they are at acceptable levels it shows that the owner cared for the sled.
If it's in good condition, I would STRONGLY suggest buying the ZR! In my opinion, the ZR-chassis is THE best ever chassis (at least second to my Crossfire, though :P). I absolutely love our 2000 ZR 600 EFI, it is powerful and handles extremely well, not to mention having a perfect reliability record! You will be pleased with it.
