My new sled, an RMK
Hey guys, I got a new sled tonight! Finally joined the 21st century in sled tech and picked up a '00 RMK 600! Has almost 5300 miles. Well taken care of for the most part, but it's a bit of a fixer-upper.
Here's the bad: The sled was backed into, and has some cosmetic damage on the right side of the hood. It has been repaired with rivets and seems like a pretty solid fix. It's not very noticable, so I haven't decided if I'm going to do anything about it. The cowl on the right side below the dash is also cracked from the same incident, but that should be pretty easy and cheap to replace. Needs a snowflap too. The other issue the sled has is general dimness in all the lights. Don't think it's a stator problem...ignition is strong and it runs great. The lights sometimes do flicker and brighten up momentarily, so I'm hoping it's just a loose connection or bad ground somewhere. I'd be glad to hear any things to check or ideas of other causes! I'm sure I'll be on the forum plenty getting help with this stuff before winter.
Now here are the great things about the sled: It has a brand new 136x1.25" Ripsaw! Which is way better than the 1.75" paddle because I am mostly a flatlander. Basicly turns it into a Switchback for me. Won't get to try it out until the snow flies, but I know the 1/2" shorter lugs will affect my top speed quite a bit...anyone have any experience with this track swap or advice on revised gearing? The other perk the sled has is brand new Camoplast skis! The PO put both the track and skis on only 200 miles ago. Also has a plug-in for the heated-shield helmet he threw in with it.
Besides the afore-mentioned issues and goodies, the rest of the sled is in really nice shape. Got an awesome deal on it too, $750 bucks! Snapped it up the day it came on Craigslist. I figure the new track and skis alone cost almost that! Makes it easy to be able to afford to fix the little things wrong with it.
I have pics, it did happen >>>

That's a nice sled even with the cosmetic work you need to do. Bet you can't wait till the snow falls next winter until then you just get to look at it.

Nice sled man. I paid $800 for my XC. My lights do the same thing, but I was only able to ride it two days so I never bothered to try fix it, and I've been busy with other things and haven't had time to do anything with that. If you get to it before me, let me know what you find. I'll do the same if I get to it before you or whatever. I really like the 600 Liberty the little bit I was able to ride. Lots more power and smoother overall.

Gonna be set up for ice fishing. Should be good for it's purpose!
Most snowmobile problems are caused by a loose nut connecting the handlebars to the seat.

Thanks jordan, appreciate the help! I'll do that if I get to it first.
RJ has pointed me in the right direction; anyone want to share some electrical test methods?
Yota, the way I look at a loooong summer is plenty of time to get everything working perfect!

Take the regulator off and clean up it's mounting post. It grounds through the bolt to the frame and if that is corroded you will have dim lights.

Good looking sled other than the damage, which the price more than makes up for!
_
I used steel wool to clean the voltage regulator mounting on mine. I actually had problems with the lights flickering and going out after that even, could be the plug for the voltage regulator, mine wouldn't stay connected very good.
If your voltage regulator does go out, try your best not to get an OEM replacement, they don't last as long as long.

That is an EDGE chassis not a Gen2, making it a 2001, not 2000 model year.
You're going to love that 600 VES engine!

'Fraid not; it is a Gen II. (used for the RMK '99-'01) VIN number says 2000. If it were an Edge RMK it would have to be '02+.
As a result, has the non-VES engine. Still, it is a Liberty, and I already love it!
