Break problems... jammed!

After FINALLY getting some snow, I got to ride my snowmobile. It was simply to get it moved from my old home to my new one without having to load it onto a trailer or truck (which I would have to borrow).

After test driving my Ski-Doo 97' Touring LE, I found that my breaks would not release. So I parked it and decided to get them apart and ride it in the daylight. I thought I got the pads off the rotor but apparently not. When I got to the end of my ride home, I hit the breaks and there was no tension on the lever... I had NO breaks! When I made it home, I opened the hood and threw a handful of snow onto the break and of course, it hissed and evaporated FAST.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I should replace/fix first? I've never worked on a snowmobile before. It looks easier than a car though! This snowmobile had been sitting for about 10 years, due to not getting snow and then we just didn't get to use it. It runs great after having the carbs cleaned but the breaks are just acting up.

The brake ruber hose has colapsed! Replace it. I recomend the Stainless Steel type!

Awesome, thanks for the help. I will buy one and replace it myself. I was expecting to have to get a new caliper! That rubber hose, is that just preasurized... no cable inside?

Master cylinder on the bar is probably the culprit. My 99 Touring had the exact same problem. I replaced the master cylinder and it's been good ever since.

My SLE has cable actuated brakes. Similar to the brakes on a 72 TNT except for the parking mechanism. You guys sure that this LE (two up 440 fan) has hydraulic brakes?

If it's cable, I would check to see that the cable is free in the housing. Make sure the parking brake isn't on. Check the automatic adjuster.
