Yeah but those sleds are designed to sink and geared for water. To me dude is just hoping on his trail sled and ripping one across the lake is pretty cool in my book

It's not that hard to cross water in a strait line, and don't come back telling me to make a better vid, because that's childish. There's hundreds of everyday trail riders crossing water, in a strait line.

Had to do it in Eagle River a couple weeks ago. Swamp melted, still had to get across. BRAPPP

Not my thing... so I give it a "meh" as well. I had seen enough water holes in the middle of trails while living in NY. I always HATED crossing them; nothing says "abuse" like subjecting a sled to water. In a couple years, that dude will have lots of fun trying to take his skid apart. Greasing helps (I greased EVERY zerk after EVERY ride), but there's still lots of bolts running inside bushings, that don't have grease fitting on them. There's a reason they're called SNOWmobiles.

Now if he was riding it off a 100 foot cliff, that would impress me...

Ever defrost your sled? Water sits on everything for some time also. I watercrossed a few times this year and it's fun! Snow is water, so whats the big difference?

I'm gonna have to agree with trevor. We let them melt off after most rides and the water gets everywhere anyway. I'm not real worried about it. Most all parts should be non corrosive other than the grease-able shafts.

The big difference is; water setting on the surface of parts vs. those same parts being submerged in water. It's called "water pressure". There's more pressure forcing water in when it's under water, than when water sits on the surface. Hitting the sled with a pressure washer will do the same thing. It will force water into places you don't want it to be. Water + air + metal = rust. There's no getting around that.

I'm not telling you what to do with your sled(s). Some people even think sinking a sled is fun (or funny). To each his own... I know that I can't afford new ones every year, and I do all my own wrenching. Therefore, it's my personal choice to care for my sleds the best I can, and to try to keep them in a condition that makes them easier to work on.

If you keep your sled long enough, you will someday try to get a bolt out of a metal sleeve that just won't want to cooperate. The you'll end up having to cut it off and buy replacement parts... How do I know that? Because I have bought used sleds that previous owners have taken "less than good care" of. In my case, it happened to be the ski bolt that attaches to the spindle. Sleeve was rusted on permanent-like. I'm not saying it was because the previous owner ran it on water... but I am saying that water got between the bolt and the metal sleeve, and it wasn't ever coming apart the way it should have.

Just sayin'. Running a sled on water can't possibly have ANY good effects on the sled. Sleds are designed to ride on snow. Boats are designed for water...
