Whats The Best 2 Person Sled For Under 2k ?... Need Help

well guys . ive decided to get a 2 person sled for me and my lady .

ive realized that since i have such little time to ride in general, i want to spend most of it with the girlfriend on the back.

here are the criteria :

1. needs to be a 2 person sled with a backrest , like an Indy Touring .

2. needs to be atleast 500cc's

3. needs to be between 1000$-2000$

4. needs to be mid 90s or newer

5. reverse would be nice, as we like to ride around the yard, sometimes not in circles...

i know the indy touring 2-up is good, and have heard good things about the fuji motors, but have no idea what separates the Indy models from each other (so many ) .

i know many other brands are out there, and would love to know about all 2-up sleds. i heard you can make some single seaters become 2 seaters... how hard is that to modify? my el tigre had a hump in the back that would prohibit this .

i dont plan on jumping ditches , or trying to do backflips. itll be more of trail riding leisure sled, but want it to be fast as well .

thanks guys .

Check Miles

Just about any sled that runs with low miles (around 3 or 4k) would be good in the price range you are looking at. I had a 94 Indy XLT. It was not a 2 up, but we rode double on it plenty of times, and it was plenty fast. Look for later models ad the late 90's is when the rear suspensions really made vast improvements. For 2 people a 9" to 12" suspension would be better, and easier on the riders kidneys! You should be able to find something in the late 90's for 2k. The addition of a seat for 2 up will cost quite a bit compared to the sled though. I would suggest you find something already set up with the 2 up seat. Check sites like this, and ebay. Good luck.

I would recommend the ski doo grand touring. it will run in ur price and if u get a 583 it is a very very reliable motor for you. it's just so many choices out there.

PANTERA! A 98 600 EFI Pantera would be the perfect sled! It has everything! Electric start, Rev, 2up, passanger hand warmers, rack! A great suspension and motor! It might be a bit more than Your $2000 if you can find one! The 97 would be good as well with the 580 EFI!

Ski-Doo Grand Touring, Polaris Indy Touring, 500cc or XLT Touring 600cc liquid cooled are good choices as well. To help with a little Polaris terminology, as soon as a model is called "classic" it has all the toys and usually better trail riding suspension. You can compare Polaris models here: Find the ATV Polaris part or Polaris snowmobile part you need, new ,used, OEM, aftermarket and performance parts, Polaris ATV Forums.

EFI eh ? hmmm......... never thought ide be movin on up to the east side ! now i know that the transition of bikes from carbed to EFI was pretty good, how was it with sleds? any hiccups?

with bikes i have always gotten carbed bikes.... . i like the crisp throttle response and ease to work on . like they always say , " a poorly carbed bike will still get you home" . heh heh . oh technology.........

hes in NH , im in ohio ... thats about 11 hrs away . tempting.. but no.

besides, i think a yamaha will be my last resort of the bunch . im really looking for a polaris liquid cooled 95-2000 touring. thats seems like the ticket that most sites say is real good for reliability . popular too ! so parts wont be hard to get .

ill keep an eye on them . you know how tough it is to wait to buy a sled for next year since you know the prices will be cheaper in a few months.... WHEN theres still snow on the ground!!! sheesh

i know i can get one now for about 1500-2000$ and a little road trip.
but if i wait till spring that same one will be for sale for 800-1200. may not seem like a lot to some but i can put that extra 700 bucks into free gas for a year or a new track , clutch, etc ! or maybe finally an electric visor ! woohoo

what about engine designs? fuji engines in one and rotax in another.... which is more reliable? do all 3 touring sleds (arctic pantera, skidoo grand touring and polaris indy) use mikuni carbs? i read the grand touring se has mikunis with " Digital Performance Management" , whatever the heck that means.. .
