Ya, I was pretty surprised as well. This was about 15 years ago and I was only reading off the speedo so it might have been off a bit. It was really cold so the engine was running lean and fast. I tried a few more times to get it up that fast again in warmer temps with no luck.

I am thinking of buying a 79 Yamaha 250 also... The only predicament is I am a bigger guy. I am about 6'4 260lbs. Will it still run okay and go a decent speed?
good kids sled, thats bout it...

i had a enticer 250,for my 11yr old son.
with me on it, i weigh 280lbs
i got it to 30mph in a half mile...
get something bigger unless you are
just going to play in your yard...
just my opinion.....;)

0, never rode one.

I did have a 1980 Yamaha SRX 440 that ran well and was good looking sled IMO. Not sure how fast it would actually go, speedometer read over 90 a few times just before it would eat another belt. It ran OK but bigger sleds soon returned it to toy status!

Top speed was claimed to be about 97 MPH back in the day. They also made about 96HP @9000rpm stock.

I've had my '79 Exciter 440 fan up to 85 MPH once. It could have had more, but I ran out of room.

I putted up a very long and steep hill on a 1984 Tundra. This machine has a top speed of about 40 MPH on a good day. Went down the other side that was as long and steep and it scared the hell out of me. Totally out of control, the motor/track could not catch up to the speed I was going. Just went I was getting ready to jump off the back and grab the bumper to try and slow it down, the end came into sight and I was able to keep it pointed straight down the hill.

okay, not the fastest I ever went, but certainly the fastest on a Tundra, lol.

When did the Blizzard 9500 and El tigre 6000's first come out? A friend of mine and I used to race the stock machines against each other. El Tigre won most of the time. Figured it was hitting 100 mph.
