How fast is your sled?

I have a 2000 yamaha vmax 500. Does anyone know how much horsepower it has and how fast it goes? I'm hoping it will be enough power since I am not a speed demon but what could I do to give it more power?

Mine will do 85 mph non stop for 500 miles when its in the back of my pick up go to the UP. Even an occasional 100 mph.

Boring it out ull notice some increase in torque, but the out come will be minimal with speed. If you want more speed, go to a bigger sled.

dont bored it out if you dont have too, if you want some more speed try to see what can be done with the clutching.

yea clutch is the cheapest way to gain some perfomrance. You should be pretty happy with the performance of a 500 tho...

I would like to have my clutch done before snow, i just dont want the dealer taking to long doing it... i already have black magic twin pipes and a black magic hot rod chip.. any ideas on a good clutch kit, i will be doing alot of trail riding with the occasional ditch banging and aggressive riding. Thanks in advance.

You could put 600 jugs and mod your head! Then drop a tooth on the top gear! There is a little more in the exhaust too!
That 500 was only about 70 hp and capable of 85 on glair ice!

I would definitely not clutch any sled. I knew they made the sled faster off the line but the don't really give it more "passing power" do they?

My old 380 would do almost 70 in any situation - and the speedo read 77-80 on glare ice. My new Crossfire better be able to break 100, but with 118 horsepower i think it can.

You can pick up quite a bit of speed with just clutching actually. Dont waste your money by boring it out.

Clutching it can change the powerband anf get the RPM's where you need them for more all around power.
