how bout my 94 xcr 440 special? I know xcr special motor was higher performance than the other 440s, but enough to warrant high octane fuel? Or should I do it just to keep the ethanol out of the gas I run through it? thanks guys!

The higher octane prevents pre-ignition on higher compression engines. If it says to run higher octane, run it.

Ya but it doesnt say is the point. Thats why Im asking. I was given the sled for free so I have no manual to look it up in or anything. It is higher compression and is higher performance than the other 440s of the day, but still doesnt come close to a modern one (I wouldnt think). I know what pre ignition or detonation sounds like in my 450hp small block chevy, but never have heard it in a 2 stroke. So again, anyone know if I should be running premium? Or is it worth it just because most pumps dont mix ethanol in their highest octane fuel? Thanks

In IL.the local shell dist. says even the 93 oct. vmax gas has had 10% ethanol in it for over 2 years.
