Sled recommendation

Hey everyone, I'm new here and I would just like to say this site looks great.

I have been sledding for 2 years now but never bought my own machine, I have pretty much just been renting to the tune of 1000$ a weekend. So I think its time for me to make the plunge and get my own.

Obviously I am not as knowledgeable as (any) of you so I hope someone here could help guide me.

I live in a big city where recreational activities are heavily regulated, my sled will probably never see speeds higher then 80km/h and only rarely travel off a trail and never on anything but snow. Maintenance is also very expensive here with labor costing close to 100$/h plus parts and booking fee. I will be putting heavy km on it so I would like something as durable as possible. I am also a heavy rider.

Keeping all this in mind I have no need for anythings fast or light, just durable and adequate. It has to be new as I plan to finance and while money is an issue, I'm not looking to cheep out.

So can anyone recommend a starting point for me?

What sleds have you ridden so far?
There is probably a make/model that you have rented that you liked best, stick with that.

Yammy is the way to go for reliability. Get a 4-stroke.

I agree with TwinsofMLB. Yamaha 4-strokes are extremely dependable (that's coming from a Polaris rider). They offer great ergos and are built for your riding style in mind.

But if you don't have a dealer close, the other major manufacturers offer sleds that will fit your need. In recent years, engine technology has come a long way; you don't have to wrench for 4 hours for every 2 hours riding any more! As RJ mentioned, buying a sled similar to what you have been renting may be a great idea; you are already familiar with the controls and how the sled handles. Plus, rental sleds are purchased by rental companies with durability in mind over horsepower...

Welcome to the Forum!

I like the Phazers too, but you will surely wanna straddle one and see if you dig the skinny, "YZ-inspired" seat. I run a YZ250 during the fair weather months and they can feel like a 2x4 in short time when riding seated. Just wanted to point that out.
