Beware replacement skid springs from Royal
I have run into a problem while rebuilding the skid in my 98 panther 550 in that the springs I received from royal distribution are too short in the long dimension, about 1.5 inches too short. When I installed them with the skid out, one of them actually came off the holder and smacked me in the forehead, nice little cut and bruise as a result. I compared them to the stock springs and immediately noticed they were shorter on the long end. Being this is my first sled and first rebuild of a skid, I figured they would stay in position once the skid was in the machine with the track tensioned down. Nope, after all the work of installing the skid into the track, even with the track adjusted snugly, when I lift the rear of the machine, both springs pop off the keepers, if this happened on the trail, the track would be destroyed as the springs land on the track when this happens. I called royal and they are going to take them as a return and compare to the stock in their warehouse, I am advised they have 40 sets, not all from the same supplier. Just wanted to let others know to look closely at these springs before going through all the hassle of installing for nothing, John.
