It might be? More likely a 4 stroke with a rod knock!

I don't know what you mean. It's not mine but I think it would be nice to have one. I wonder if they have good acceleration with a 953? briggs engine.

It'd be awesome! They already make diesel ATVs.

Theres a school that made one for cleaner emissions testing. Its a 3 cylinder diesel, has about a top speed of 50 or 60 mph, but got like 30 plus mpg.

Perhaps just the gearing. It's probably not like riding a 340 which doesn't have any power, it's probably just slow but with power if you know what I mean. They would probably be nice in the powder because the torque at low revs.

If they could get a diesel to hit 7-8000 RPM like a two stroke they would kick ass!

Torque isnt an issue. Diesel has more torque than the two stroke. Its missing the RPMS. That diesel only winds up to 4 to 5 k rpms.

They're really only lacking the horsepower. A lot of pickup trucks will have 5 or 600 foot pounds of torque but only like 150 horsepower. And if you got it to rev up to 8000 rpm then it would defeat the purpose of a diesel and they wouldn't last as long-like a gas engine

Cold starts would be the biggest concern for me, ever tried to start a diesel engine at sub-zero temps?? Would need a block heater.

Anything is possible but really what's the point? The last thing I want to see out on the trail is a large dark cloud spitting out from a sled. It's like spandex its just not right for everyone. When you look at the pros and cons i'll keep my gas powered sleds. Who knows maybe an electric hybrid but weight is too much of a factor.

I have seen these proto-type sleds run.
University of Buffalo did one last year for the "Clean Sled Challenge".
It did not have any black smoke at all.
Due to the way it was geared, it only had a top speed of 45mph. This was from a 1200cc three cylinder with turbo (a tractor engine).

It could be geared for more speed easily.

"This was from a 1200cc three cylinder with turbo (a tractor engine)."

It has to be a tank. Coud it even float in the snow? I would expect it to weight out at 900lbs.

Engine in there was no bigger than any of the current 4 strokes.
