Trying to register a snowmobile without registration or bill of sale in illinois

ITS NOT STOLEN!! lol.. i bought it fair and square from a kid who lived on alot of land and never registered it.. i was stupid and too excited to just get it and leave that i never got a bill of sale.. the registration numbers are rubbed off but the engine and tunnel serial numbers are there.. and i dont know what to do.. any help would be cool

you think if i just filled out the registration form the best i could and explain that i never got a bill of sale that they would be cool with it as long as it wasnt reported stolen??

And take a rubbing of the vin along so that they can verify it too.

Of course, you could just call them up and ask what you will need.

Do the rubbing of the tunnel! Then get a form from the DNR! Then have the prev owner fill out the bottom (purcased from)!

i have no way of getting ahold of the previous owner.. if i didn then this would be no problem as in illinois only a bill of sale is necessary.. but i dont have this.. ill take a rubbing of the tunnel and engine and send in the registration and hope to god its not stolen..

I had the same thing from mine kinda. Bill of sale on the purchase but 2 previouse owners did not register. Filled out a statement claiming it was clean to the best of my knowledge and got my plates 1980 panther. That was in MI

I had same problem. I got a sled for free from someone who got it from someone who inherited it. No bill of sale, no registration card. It took me months of phone calls but eventually I got a registration card. Don't fill out reg. form and mail in it will not work. Try calling DNR first. With vin # they can look up who previously registered it. Good Luck!

In wisconsin, you can just register your sled online. what i found easy about it was if u put the correct serial number off the tunnel into the online registration site, it pulled up the previous owner and gets you the registration from the mail. I dont know if you can do this in illinois, but i didnt even need anything from the previous owner to register it.

Gotta Love Wisconsin

just got my new registration stickers and card... didnt need a previous owner, all they needed was my birth date and social security number, serial number off of my tunnel, and where i use it the most.. got my stickers about 4 days after i did it online as opposed to 4 weeks in illinois.. MY STATE SUCKS!!!

Yet another reason to love Wisconsin!
I got my sled for free, and being that I didn't need a bill of sale, I didn't have a problem. I still had the guy who gave it to me write a short note explaining, but they didn't give me any problems.
