Don't mix synthetic and mineral oil, if mineral is what is in there now. Get the tank as empty as possible, then fill them with the new.

Thanks, I thought that would be the case. I was hoping that I could get polaris oil that isn't synthetic, but havn't found it.

I respectfully disagree. There is absolutely no problem mixing synthetic and conventional oil. How do semi-synthetics exist then?

If you mix the two, you won't get the full benefit of synthetics, but it will not harm anything. Fully synthetic 4 stroke oil actually has some solvent properties and will slowly clean sludge out of old engines. I'm not sure if 2 stroke oils will do the same, but synthetic 2 stroke oil are designed to burn far cleaner.

Use the the Polaris oil and don't worry.

I have to disagree, don't mix the two.
Mixing oil bases in 2 strokes is a great way to learn about rebuilding motors.

Sounds like a painful lesson. Please elaborate. Honestly, I've never of anyone damaging any engine by mixing oils. What happened to you?

My son mixed oils in his Phazer a couple years ago. They ended up gelling up. The motor got no lubrication because the pump couldn't pick it up and he ended up blowing a rod through the case. You can mix oils, but first make sure they are miscible by taking some out of your tank and mix it with some of the new oil in a clear container. If they mix, no problem.

Run Wal-mart Super Tech 2cyl. tcw3, $9 something a gallon. I have never had a problem with it on older sleds. If you have money to burn go ahead and waste it on brand name synthetic oil, it smells better that's about it as far as I'm concerned. A 1984 and a 1993 use the cheap stuff. BTW I'm a cheap bastard.

If it's Polaris oil, you can mix it, no problem. If it's a different brand, I would do what SEG suggests. Polaris says their products will mix together with no issues.

I'm kind of leaning toward the eriksat1 method, although I prefer the term "thrifty"
