Angry Belt isn't catching on clutch--just spins--then catches at high rpm's kinda

Ugh as I said above.

I went to move my belt and it was started moving like a train-Go-uh-go-uh kinda like a train.

Well I figured its my belt because thats where it is coming from. It was a new belt so I took it off inspected it, didn't find much to be concerned. So I tossed the other new belt in and same thing. Like the belt is there, and the clutch is spinning, just having trouble catching the belt.

Its a Team Clutch so its not like I can open or close it anymore. Just used the tool and pull it out.

You can smell the rubber burning from the sides and see it just skimming across it. I know this isn't a major deal (I'm thinking and praying)

It took 4200 RPM's for the clutch to somewhat engage. And it was WHINING trying to catch. Any suggestions? Its on the trailer and ready to roll tomorrow...so yeah...

Shouldn't it engage at 3200?

I thought maybe it was because the belt was formed to a figure 8 because it was cold and was stored on the clip thingy on the top of the clutch hand cover thing.

Would taking it inside warming it up make a difference?

Make sure you wash all new belts with soap and water. Belts are layed up in a form and release agent is used to prevent the belt material from sticking to it. That little layer of slippery stuff is all the clutch needs to slip. The stuff gets on the contact faces of the clutch so clean them well before installing the freshly cleaned belt. I use rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol and a clean rag (wife's facecloth).

The belt may have a burnt spot on it from the spinning too much and melting it. This may explain the chugging.

Could also be a dirty or worn primary clutch as well but slimy belt fits your description better.

sounds to me like something is dragging. It could be in your chain case or maybe even a frozen brake? Did you have your e-brake on when it was on the trailer? If the belt is grabbing and smoking there has to be something causing it to drive so hard. Check your chaincase for oil and see if there are any larger metal shavings on the magnet.

Clutch was dirty. Had rubber on the plate coated nicely. Have no clue how but I think it had something to do when I first moved it this year

Took it to the dealer cleaned her up and should be all set.

Although it kinda acted up when I was backing up and kept dying so I played with the PERC setting and it was set on high elevation. Somehow I changed it and it works 100% now...

Don't ask..

You know a small piece of 120 grit sand paper, a blow gun and 2 min. is all that it would have taken to fix that!
