Need help with my new used sled.

So I bought a 96 indy 600 xlt special. It has sat for about 3 years before I got it. I drained the gas and cleaned the carbs and with new plugs it fired right up and seemed to run good. Clutch was shot so I put on one from an 89 indy 650 to see if it would work. Seems to work okay, engages at 3500 or so. I took the sled out four days ago for a short ride and it ran good. When I started it the next day (first pull) it idled fine and when I went to take off it felt like something was holding it back(down on power) and started bogging at about 3000 rpm. Later that day it started and went fine like nothing was wrong with it and then after riding it it stopped and did the same thing, two more times. Any suggestions? To me it seems to be fuel or electrical. It is firing on all three cylinders and seems to run good until you hit 3000 or so. Thanks in advance.

check compression on all 3 cylinders. had a friends sled do the same thing - turned out to be base gasket on the clutch side- i think the xlt were famous for base gaskets but not positive.
Hope its something simple

You could also have a plug wire or plug wire end that is not working properly. My 650 did exactly what you are describing, I replaced the ends and the problem went away. Those triples don't run very well on two cylinders
