Low Windshield

Hey every, winter is coming up pretty soon and I have begun to think about this season's snowmobiling. I think this year I would like to buy a couple accesories for my snowmobile. I was thinking about getting headlight covers risers for my bars, hand gaurds and a low windshield. I was wondering how those with low windshields like it as far as getting blasted by the wind. Will I still be able to ride all day without getting cold. Also does anyone have any issues with handgaurds hitting their low windshields?

You're definitely going to have to dress warmer. I have a low shield on my sled, and it gets cold quick. Keep that in mind.

Yep, you are gonna want to dress a bit warmer my friend! But some folks really like the low shields and do not mind the extra wind. Also, make sure you have the fastest sled as other wise you might get additional snow tossed at ya!

To be honest I dont find it any colder on my sled with a low windshield, than on my Grand-fathers vector with one of those MASSIVE grandpa windshields, I wear a really good FXR jacket though. Some 2-stroke sleds also put off more heat onto the rider that others do too.

i got the same windshield as SEG and i don't find it any colder, tho i have never owned a sled with a high windshield, as for hand guards i put em on my sled as well, no problem with windshield clearance.

Ok thanks guys.

Another question, If I get headlight covers will any light go through them at night? Is it hard to take them off and throw them in the back of the sled if it starts getting dark?

don't know for sure but i think you can get like a black transparent cover, may not let enough light out for when its real dark, and you might be able to fasten it with velcro or somthing but not 100%

my friend has sportech light cover on his 98 polaris indy 440 and is just velcro stays on pretty good but have you heard of that 3m dual lock heres a link to it
Dual Lock by 3M Reclosable Fastener Information - Buy duallock here!
i would probably reccomend the 250 shouldnt need anymore its pretty tough just use a small piece on the headlight and cover its easy to take off too

depending on your sled those covers have been known to melt light housings.

I have a super low one, not much difference unless you like to putt everyplace you go. I tend to keep myself warm

I have a "flyscreen" on my firecat. It is super super low, only like 5-6'' tall maybe. I dont find it any colder then my regular windshield. If you plan on putting a riser on, then you wont have a problem with handguards hitting. Also, if you buy the cat lens covers, light will shine through, as they are transparent. I have a set of the cat smoked ones, and i have a set of the sno-stuff black lens covers. The sno-stuff ones are completely black, no light makes it through at all. At night, just unvelcro them, throw them in your backpack and go.

In Michigan, you MUST have headlights in the day time, as well!!

Handguards will work with the low wind-shields, my 2001 Phazer Mtn Lite has the stock windshield and i put a 2 inch riser on it and handguards, the hand-guards barely touch the windshiled, if i shaved even a half inch off my windshiled it would clear it, its still perfect, i mean how often do you turn your bars all the way over on one side? Mine only touch because of the small amount of play in the bars, im guessing there slightly loose because the sled has 9991 kms on it, well, 10000 ya wight as well say, if i had it tightened up it would be good id say. As for being cold or warm, well, i only got my sled a couple weeks ago and no snow here in newfoundland yet, but i had the windshield taken off on my old bravo so the risers and hand guards would work with the bars tilted forward, i never got cold, but now its a 250, its not fast so unless its like -35 celcius outside your not gonna get cold, but guys, believe me or not, my Bravo (LT!) reached 85 km/h on the speedo/dream meter, lololol, opened out across a long pond for like 2 minutes, lol, anyways, its not cold at all, and that day it was -25 i think, and i never had the shield down on the helmet either, i never do becaus eit foggs up, so im gettin a motocross helmet with goggles, anyways, if your lake racing i think you might geta lil cold going like 180 with a low windy that you towers over.
