Alright since my fiberglass could not harden fast enough I'm showing everyone the tunnel paint that i did this weekend. The end result looks great. I'm going to polish the sides then spray it with clear to keep the shine. Cheating i know but what else am i suppose to do. Pam elected to go with 3 strips instead of 4 and we cut the black out totally. It was a great decision as you can see from the pics. The last pic also has the new seat cover we made for Pam's sled last year. Did i mention she know has a rear suspension. All last year It was froze up and i fixed it a little but now after we put the rebuilt one in and dialed the shock down her rear end goes up and down (stop snickering and get your mind out of the gutter)

I have to say, it is turning out to be a pretty nice looking sled! I'm stuck working on my cars timming belt, water pump and thermostat so no love for the sled this weekend as of yet. But if I do I'm stripping the A-arms.

After everything was said and done it worked 2.5 days to dry next time I'll add a few extra drops of hardener just to make sure. Bondo turned out good, i used sandable primer also. most of my issues where worked out and its pretty smooth. Its not 100% but close enough for Pam and myself. I have two colors painted so far with 1 goof that i will need to be fixed. I picked some metal flake phantom grey instead of black and was very happy about that. You where right as the paint went on its design came to us.

Craaaaaaaaap,
Yesterday went great got the blue on than the black. I put the over the blue after it had dryed for an hour plus seemed ok. Today i taped the light blue to go over some of the black and after painting it the light blue that was over the black orange peeled. Also on the other side when i took some of the tape off the black came up with it. What might have i done wrong :-(

Hey Clode, sorry to here that...

Orange peeling sucks when it happens. A few questions for you, are you rattle canning or do you have a sprayer/compressor set up. If your rattle canning then not much you can adjust other than standing a little farther back and painting really thin coats. If you have a compressor, you can try increasing your air pressure. Do you thin your paint? You can try thinning it a bit more too. Generally orange peeling happens when the paint isn't put on evenly, or the paint dries to quick in certain areas and doesn't have time to "level".

A light wet sanding will smooth it out, no reason to remove all the paint and start again. Think of it as a thicker more protective coat.

As for the tape lifting the paint, most likely you didn't get good adhesion to the undercoat, or the paint wasn't completely dry. What is under the paint, primer?

Well thats some good news. I took the night off after that happened. I will sand it down and redo the black for the most part. Would it be over kill if i primed each section before painting. I primed the whole thing but ahahh who knows I'm just guessing at why I'll take a pic and post it tomorrow so you can see what happened.
I am rattle canning it. It was going buy a paint gun for my air compressor but it cost more for the quarts of paint that i wanted to invest at that time. Now that I'm $150 into it I should have. (hind site gotta love it)
I have a feeling i know what happened to the black. I base coated it with a different paint than the other and it took longer to dry than the brand i'm using. When it was barely sticky i chose to put the top coat of the metal and phantom gray on which I'm sure helped cause the issue. It didn't orange peel though until i put the light blue on top than it turned ugly.

I did it Here are some pics with the cab 100% painted and on the sled. I even put 4-5 coats of clear coat on to help protect it. Ad cat you where right as we started painting we figured the design out and looks exactly as Pam wanted simple but not plain. I still have to put a few things on to finish the sled but here it is at 95%. Next weekend i will finish everything and put it on blocks in the front yard and take some pics for everyone. I really love the paint its all the right colors. The next debate is if we go with the original windshield or the one that was on there thats 12" taller
