You.. are a very smart man!

Just out of curiosity are you planning on keeping or placing new stickers on the sled, or all paint? Or did i just make your decision harder?

What I am hopefully going to do to my sled over the summer months is:
- powermadd handguards "green/black"
- 5 inch handle bar riser
- set of motocross bars
- headlight lens "green
- colored slides "green"
- colored pull cord handle "green"
- new colored wheels "green"
- new top put in seat "old one gone sticky, anyone know how to fix?"
- front end took apart and paint applied "green/black/gold"
- rear fox shox rebuild
- belly pan "green"
- custom painted hood "green/yellow tribal flames"
- and a led kit "green but have blue currently installed"
Hopefully this will be the finished product "still working on final hood gfx"

Interesting! Thats kind of neat. Must be a little rough on the bumps. You should put some kind of soft suspension under the seat to save your butt!

not big project for me ...

some gift to my sled
- ROX adjustable riser
- Powermadd Star Series Handguard red-black
- flat handlebar from RSI (+ heaters, grips, mountain handle and pad)
- throttle and brake extension cable
- ice scratchers

ordinary maintenance
- wash, grease, clean rush from muffler

not sure if do or not:
- put some hole in the track to improve snow elimination ...

what do you think about this? am I going to destroy my track?

Porting the track is a fairly common practice of many mountain riders
You can even buy new tracks already ported (with holes) to cut weight and for better snow elimination.

I don't want to buy a new track now because off I think that in 1 or 2 season our local law will force us to switch to a 4 stroke ...

my doubts are about riding with an home made ported track on hard-packed snow condition (not so rare in the last few years)

anyway I think I'll go porting my track riding more carefully on hard packed snow (and making some experience for the next sled)

Tnx RJ

You might find a good used one fairly cheap on flE-Bay.

Not alot to say but here comes the paint. This is always the best part although its just the rear suspension. I painted all the old boggies. What you are seeing is the rear suspension at 75% painted. I just painted the rest of the boggies and I'm working on the rest of the straggling parts. My home made paint curtain and all the rear suspension parts before sanding and painting. I'm also painting some spare parts just in case.

RJ
i just saw your link, man do you have a project in front of you. I was not able to get the primary clutch off it seems its frozen to the shaft. Is there a trick to getting it off.

Ad cat
After reading this i went out and realized they where stickers (no always the brightest bulb) I'm thinking of paiting some simpal v shaped design on the hood and maybe follow it with stickers later.

Question: The front shock is it suppose to decompress fast and release slow or are both of my front shocks dead?

The half snowmobile/ half motorcycle looks like the deal Ski-Doo/Cam-Am made. I think it is called the Sportster or Speedster. Looks just like a sled on wheels!

Lots of penetrating oil and then a home made puller got it off.
I made a puller from some heavy angle iron and bolts.
Be sure that the widest iron that you can find is used across the back side of the unit and then just have a bolt to apply pressure with. It came off fairly easy that way.

no it takes mixed gas so i didnt run out of oil,but the 60 down the road part...., me and my two buddies on there dirt bikes were gunna go for a ride but when i was pulling out of my driveway it just died, but i got it going again for about 30 seconds then it died again, so i pulled the plugs and found there was no compression on the left piston. So i stripped down the left side and found little pieces of of piston rings all inside the cylinder. So now im looking for a new piston or a whole new motor.

If i had a piston that would fit i would give you one just for the sake of hearing the stories of what you did on that contraption.

gear box concern now. I've got the rear end in and put it all back now I'm not sure i put the spacers in the right spot. Any one have an assembly pic for a gear box on a 81-85 yamaha ss 440 or where i might find one on the internet?

You can check that with a straight edge.
Put the edge on the sprockets, there should be absolutely no deflection across the faces of them.
