i would think by watching all those youtube videos has helped me....

that said powder to me in michigan is 12" max and a 24"crested drift... so i'm not talking 4' of it... but the studying the youtube videos has helped my learning curve on "controling" my sled!!

and best of all those videos show you WHAT NOT TO DO AND HOW NOT TO DO IT!!

CHEERS!

I tried this yesterday as well while my sled was working. How much snow do you need???
I tried and it kept turning in the direction I turned my ski's... Leaning out of the corner made it almost roll several times.

I should have the weight, I can bounce it from ski to ski while sitting still and while doing ~50mph I can shift my weight enough to pick a ski up about an inch or two...

What speed do you recommend for trying it out... Too slow and I imagine your going to get stuck and too fast and I'm going to kill myself.... The other problem is my track is a shorty with 3/4" paddles so it'll get stuck fairly quick in powder and it weighs ~600lbs with gas in it so getting stuck is not on the top of my to do list. Even without a mountain sled I think it will be able to do at least a little carving...

you need about a foot of snow if your gonna really lay her over id say 3-4 u dont turn your skis the same way u wanna go turn your skis the oppsite way you wanna go and lean in the direction in which u want your sled to go id say 25-35mph 50mph with low snow your asking for a roll over try rolling into the deep stuff at about 10mph and get your self set up and lean and hammer it this will pick the frount end up and maybe a little easyer than trying to go into a turn already speed up alot of this is just throttle control and learning to throw your weight around im about a 165pounds and can carve no problem

O forgot dont turn them all the way only a little bit maybe right between straight and all the way turned you'll find the right spot for your sled

Just found this and it's got a lot of great tips!

Powder Riding I

---
Yup everything Ditch Hopper just said not to do is what I was doing haha! I was going balls out and turning fairly sharp... Only had about 8" of snow over top of ice where I was trying it so that's probably why I was having some near-rollovers.
I'll go out and try it again this weekend. I'll stay out there until I successfully carve!... If I can find some snow deep enough.

What i do....granted i'm a big sum bitch lol

I just really throw my wieght to one side and pull hard while getting on the gas. Once its on its side counter steer a bit. Just a suggestion... works for me...idk for you. Those doos might not have enough power ...kidding
Riding pow is amazing.

Thanks to Ditch Hopper I tried it out today:

Only had about 7" of snow but it was enough to get it all the way over on its side! I didn't realize my heavy mofo of a sled would be that easy to tip! I just stood up, put both feet on the one running board, stuck my a$$ out (this was enough to get it angled a fair bit) and then turned the opposite direction EVER so slightly and that was that, she was right over on her side, had to stomp a foot down a few times but I started getting used to it...

Not enough snow to turn real well where I was leaning, but enough that I WOULD turn that way even though I was steering in the opposite direction. Weird feeling haha.
Found a small patch of snow that was 2 feet deep and the three times I was able to turn through that was incredible.

Been riding sleds for 15 years and never tried that, WOW is that fun! Just opened a whole new set of doors for me, thanks everyone!

RoadkillSTX-If you set up those F chassis' the right way and know where to put your weight...they are actually a very easy carving sled.

great stuff guys, I Tried recently putting my two feet on the one running board, i can keep the sled up but not but long. I keep having the idea that i'm suppose to be on the ground and the sled is suppose to be right on its side so that the tracks up and exposed a lot, Once we get another snow fall im going to spend a day at it.

The deeper the pow the easier it is. Just remember your skis are not doing the work you are. When you are deep only the A$$ end of your skis are in the snow you have to counter steer which takes a while to get used to. We just got 38" the last two days. LIFE IS GREAT!!!!

I've found if I want to carve left I first rock the sled a bit to the right and then lean it over. I find both feet on one side of the sled makes coming out of the carve too difficult. I do need to install a riser for the handlebars on my sled as well. Amazing what a difference this makes for easing the whole effort to get it over. The newer sleds with the higher seats and bars are so much easier to carve with.

guess what? i learned how to carve!!! i spent all day working at it, we got over a foot of snow today. it was so cool. there were low areas that had 2 feet. I was getting the hang of tipping it over, then all of a sudden i realized i had to turn more. the first time, it was like all the way on it's side and it was like doing a donut in a truck. very awesome!!!and it was using my 1990 formula mx, the prs chassis seemed to work fine, for me. but i will be fabricating some risers i think cause they felt low for this style. Thanks everyone for describing how to ride powder!!!
