Ice Scratchers? is that a Curb Feeler for sleds?lol
ok... first off.. these reminded me of curb feelers seen on a 82monte carlo.... i saw this here when i was looking for a ski rack:
http://cheetahfactoryracing.com/icescratchers.htm
is that a gimmick? i would assume it has to be totally bare ice to make the "spray" cool the exchanger? then i saw a set on the front skis...
now i know i don't need them but do any of you have them? AND USE THEM?
cheers!!

most guys that have long track, deep lug sleds in the west put 'em on, it keeps you from burning up the hyfax and keeps the engine temps down when you are riding the frozen trails to get to the powder. I have 'em on all my RMK's. Putting the scratchers down will drop the engine temps from 180 to 140 in about a mile.

My friend has a couple studs in his skis that help kick up ice dust.

wow no kidin... it helps that much... still not something i would use... it doesn't take that much to cool the exchangers down... that's pretty cool then if you need it.... i'll have to watch my temp guage when i'm on ice; however, the ice i go on has 8" of snow on it so it probably won't heat up much over the "land" temp.....
ok thanks... learn something new everyday!!

AKA: What the track slides on.
I've never really had to worry about not having snow... Even in hard-pack I'm fine.
But I usually don't ride unless there is a couple inches of snow, and it's ALWAYS cold here, I have 3/4" paddles.
Even the bare lakes will usually have a little strip of powder every 15 feet or so.
Definitely useful for lake runners or the mtn sleds on hardpack.
I was thinking of picking some up/making my own just as a precautionary measure.

Haha that's exactly what I thought.
$60 for a bent coat hanger? (ok so a coat hanger won't work, if you taped two coat hangers together and bent them it might though haha)
I'll make mine out of some scrap rod at work.

ok i know you know the coat hanger won't work... but just regular rod won't work either (just confirming that you know) it has to bring spring steel (with "memory") don't know the exact term .. but regular "steel" will just bend and not keep the pressure to the ice. ...
i'm sure you know that just wanted to confirm it in case you didn't know.......
CHEERS AND TAKE SOME PICS!!
ps.. didn't know the exact term of spring steel either.. it's what my buddy called it at his machine/stamping shop when we were making funeral flags for cars......
