Belt slips when breaking fresh snow?

Is it possible for the drive belt to slip in the clutches? If I am breaking a new trail with fresh snow/powder, it acts like thats the case. Any ideas on stopping this?

Thanks

If you get water on it, might make it slip.

Or maybe your tracks spinning, and you think its the belt? Idk....

If there is a hole somewhere spraying snow onto the clutch it'll get wet and slip. Maybe thru the cowling or tub. Plug a hole or some sort of screen kit will help.

mine has the exact same problem. the snow is coming in somewhere (i think through the hood vents or at base of hood) and the snow is packed into the engine bay. It steams, and melt away, but more obviously gets in. then all the water sits down by the clutch, and it slips a lot. could i drill a small drain hole?

i will eventually put screen over the hood vents, but we usually don't have this much powder (we got over a foot of powder yesterday on top of the 1 foot base).

otherwise, what else can you do to stop the belt from slipping?

That is the most common problem with sinking sleds while waterskipping also. The clutch just cannot get snow or water on it, else you loose pull till it drys out. Plugging holes or screening them on the clutch side is the only way to go if nothing else most cowlings have holes for screws and kits, you can use store bought screws with washers, and some window screen for some temporary/cheap snow screens, while the powder is there, then take them off when alls back to usual. And also a little silicon goes along way, and it's cheap and easy to clean up.

snow has to be getting in somewhere. once the clutch gets wet itll slip/loose power. check under your belly and check/seal any potential breaches. maybe some hood screens if you dont have em.

ok. i know the belly pan is all good, but the nose cone is missing. so maybe it's coming in there. or in the vents, we had a lot of powder. and once all the powder and water was in there, it kept getting it wet so it would slipo even when you were on a good trail.

what would you do with the silicon though?

Absolutely enough snow to cause the problem. Check all your left side vents. Is your hoos sealing well around the mating points? How about behind the hood, any new vents or missing peices there?

have someone shine a flashlight from the outside all over in the dark, and where it shines through, investigate. maybe some type of mesh screen, thats a ton of snow by the clutches.

If you are in that much powder even screens won't be enough to keep the powder out. You almost have to cover the vents completly. The only problem is you risk overheating then.

I used to have a bib on my old '91 Indy 500 that worked GREAT for those conditions. Wish I still has that sled...

Screens help out though, especially if the snow is a little wetter.
