Engine problem!
Hey guys, I haven't been in here for awhile. I was riding in northern Wisconsin over the weekend. Temps were below zero most of the time. I rode Friday night with no problems. Same on Saturday morning until about 30-40 minutes into the ride. My machine just shut down. I couldn't start it immediately. I had to wait a few minutes. I got it running again for about 10 minutes and then the same thing happened. Had to wait about 15 minutes this time, as I thought it needed to cool down. Got it running again and at the next stop, we changed the plugs. It ran okay on the way back, but seemingly on only one cylinder, as I topped out at 40 m.p.h. One theory was a partially frozen fuel line. But the engine itself didn't sound right and would actually backfire while running. It's a 2003 Ski-doo Grand Touring 600 with only 1,000 miles on. All fluid levels were fine. I've dropped it off at a dealer, but they won't get to look at it until Thursday. Any ideas? Does it sound serious? I'm worried about the possible cost. Thanks for any replies.

Carb issue on the one side, or low compression on that side.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that one of the plugs was pretty fouled up. The other one was so-so. In any of the above cases, is this a major fix?

Boulder Junction. The trails were great, so I'm obviously disappointed.

Time for a compression and spark test.

Okay, I talked to the guy this morning. All they were able to do is check for compression so far, and there was none on the one side. He said they won't know anything further until they can get it opened up completely. Is this going to cost me hundreds of dollars? More?

It will be more if you have a shop do it! You will likly need a piston (or 2) and maybe have a cyl replated ( or 2) ! But find out why first so you don't have to go threw it twice!

Thanks, kcats. I'm pretty handy with most things, but unfortunately, engines is one of the things I know little about. I do take care of the P.M. stuff, but with this kind of thing I just don't have the time, so I guess I'll have to eat the cost.
