my problem

folks my 1990 prowler is doing good i guess other than the carburator fuel inlet (where the line attaches to the carb) poping off and the clutch is now screwed up. i fixed the carb with a little loctite and it seems to run fine now. but the clutch is shit. the roller is totaly flat. should i rebuild it?. or wait for a part sled to come up in the spring and buy one and sell all the parts and pull of a clutch? or should i sell the thing. i love the sled but idk what to do. i dont feel like buying a new clutch $200 bucks?

Replace the rollers. Easy to do.

check craigs list for someone parting out a sled. you should be able to get a clutch resonably cheap. i'd think you could use one off of another arctic cat model.

Rollers and weights are fairly cheap, even from the dealer.
Weights are about $15 ea and the rollers should be about $5.
If you have worn rollers, it is a good idea to also replace the weights.
Now, if you want to make an improvement in your clutching, now is the time to do it. Get the next lighter set of weights to up the engagement rpm's and also your top end as well.

Clutch rebuild

There was just recently a good thread on the pros and cons
of clutch rebuilding on the Forum.
Basically, you need special set of spider removal tools, a Mapp
gas torch to soften the Red Locktite on the spider threads, a
strong vice or a torch to weld a socket onto a steel plate, and
a set of rollers and bushings. The rollers and bushings come as
a matched set and will set you back about 90 dollars. As stated in the previous thread, to do one clutch it is more expensive than to buy a new or good used one. If you have a friend who has
all the tools, you might come out ahead doing it yourself. If you do it yourself, make sure to index (mark) all your parts so that you put it back together balanced.

Good luck, and have fun with it.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
That's if you are going to attempt a total overhaul of the clutch.
In his case, he only needs to pull the end plate to remove the spring so that he can change the rollers and weights.

Are we talking about the same rollers? The rollers I am talking about are the ones in the spider that the weights ride on. They are captive between the towers. To get them out, the spider needs to be spun off. The pins and bushings that the weights pivot on can be replaced with the spider in place.

Its the rollers in the spider that are hard to replace and are
expensive. These are the ones that tend to flatten out and cause erratic shifting.

Hope this is of some help.

The rollers CAN NOT be replaced without taking spider off!
You would be much better off calling some of the salvage yards and getting a clutch for $50!
