Floe Versa-Lock??

I've got a Floe trailer (my 1st snowmobile trailer) with the Floe "Versa-Lock" ski tie-downs.

It's a pretty slick set up, but I can't seem to get the tie-downs as snug as I think they should be (or as solid as the crank-down bars that were on the trailer I borrowed to get the sled home when I bought it).

Can anybody else who uses them shed some light on how tight they need to be, if that's just the nature of these tie-downs, or if there's some trick I haven't figured out.

Thanks,
Kevin

Versa Lock

I am in the same boat. Just bought a new Floe and haven't used it yet except to go buy my wife's sled. After a bit of messing around with the versa locks at the house where I picked it up, it seemed to be pretty tight but I don't have anything to compare it to. Now I am wondering if I should go buy one of the versa loops for both sleds for $20 per loop (way too much) to also use tie downs on the back. I wish I could find the Floe products cheeper than the rip off dealer prices. Did you get the Floe Salt shield? I am debating getting the $200 model from Fleet Farm.

jkust,

You're right, the "Versa-Loops" are more expensive than they're worth. I think if I wanted to tie down the back of the sled, I'd consider drilling a hole or two in the lip on the back (or side) edge of the trailer for a tie down strap.

I was considering a Fleet salt shield as well. When I asked about the Floe shield at the dealer I must've gotten a "you must be kidding" look on my face when he told me $500. Yeah, a LITTLE bit high. But he said he could let it go for less, and offered it for about $100 more than the one at Fleet, so I bought it thinking it'd be a better fit than a one-size-fits-all setup. It's a little hassle for one person to take on & off, but not that bad, and the fit is really good. More aerodynamic than the other and follows the shape of the front of the sled.

Kevin, where did you buy the Floe Shield from? I bought the Trailer at Heinens in Osseo. They are woefully incapable of selling trailers even though they try and their prices are the absolutly highest I have seen for all of their stuff. Yeah the Fleet Farm shield is lower overall, less aerodynamic and just kind of junky looking on a nice Floe Trailer. I missed the sale a few weeks back where they were selling for around $170ish. Now that is cheep.
