Smile Artic Cat Prowler 94 won't start

Hi; I'm new here. Happy Holidays to all!
I have a 1994 Artic Cat 2up and it won't start. There seems to be an electrical problem. When it was last running 3 days ago I was attempting to go out at night. After I got it started I applied the hand brake and all the lights went out. When I let go of the brake they go back on. The next day I went out to start it and it wouldn't start at all. I've cleaned up all of the electrical connections I could find (thinking a ground is out some where) but it still won't start. I also put new pulgs in it. Can anyone shed some light on this dilema?
Thanks, Pete

I think you have 2 separate problems, a short in your brake light switch for one. Did you check for spark using an inline neon spark tester?

You may need a regulator, check for spark by unplugging the 4 way conector coming out of the motor. But clean those carbs before you try to run it, it will melt down if the jets are even slightly dirty it will melt down!

I would look at the wiring to the rear brake, like SEG said. Sometimes the wiring gets chaffed under the seat and causes a dead short, which would explain why it shorts when you hit the brakes.

For the stator specs, if your sled is carbed, give me your email addy and I will send you the specs for the stator from the 1995 book. I scanned part of it in, but the resolution is too great to be accepted by the forum, and you don't want less resolution, you would not be able to read the numbers (and I don't want to re-type )

Merry Christmas!

Smile re: Artctic Cat Prowler 94 won't start

Wow, thanks for the info. It might be over my head as I've never removed a seat but I'll give it a try. looks like I'll need a shop manual. Any idea's where to get one or which one would be bset to purchase?
Thanks again, Pete

I got a factory repair manual on ebay for my 1995 550 prowler, you have to keep looking, but they turn up from time to time. It's very helpful.
