Unhappy Difference btwn CDI and old points/coil ignition DIFFERENCE???

I'm hopping someone can explain to me, or show me where to look, for the differences of how an old points system (70-80s) works in comparison to the CDI ignition on sleds from the 90s and up.
Wondering about doing some engine conversions and rewiring.....

The stators are different to start with.
The ET (electric transfer) with points and condenser Had to run separate coils to make the spark hot enough.

CDI (capacitive discharge ignition) Uses a solid state controller and fires every 180 degrees in a twin. The spark is hotter and only one coil is needed.
The flywheel of the cdi sled will not have a cam or advance/retard lever as that is all done in the box. There is an extra trigger coil to make the timing right.

If I missed anything, I'm sure that some of the others who are much more technical will chime in.
