Sled Bed Trailer blowing left parking light fuse....

i'll try to keep this short..

I have a 2001 Sled Bed V nose open trailer. with the tilt to load if that helps. I hook it up to my Jeep Liberty and within 5 minutes it blows the left parking light fuse. I've rewired what i could see on the trailer from the open end of the "V" to the 4 wire plug. I still blow the fuse...

The blinkers work as well as both brake lights. the problem i have is night travel knock my whole left wide out other than the headlight...

what do i need to look for? I want to take off the light to examine the connections seeing Ithink there is water in one, but thats on the side that actually works...I'm stumped...is there a ground on the trailer somewhere?

The ground should be up by the tongue of the trailer.

Also, sometimes you just need to put in a larger fuse.

RJ makes a good point, but that is only valid if the original fuse was replaced with one of a lower amperage. If the right side has no problem and its not blowing the fuse there has to be a short in left side. Are you sure there is not a short in the wire harness of the truck? I know on my 03 Silverado the rear lights (both brake, turn, and tail) are all on separate fuses, so if something does fail the other side will continue to work.

A friend of mine had one that would keep blowing the 10 amp fuse. Finally replaced it with a 15 and no more problem.

ok, i've heard more bad than good replacing fuses with larger ones in the newer vehicles. but, if i do give this a try and it blows, it must be a short.

I'll start there, have to start somewheres huh? i'll videotape the fire

got it, then didn't

time is never on my side.

update: I was able to try to tackle this last night. Popped in a 15 amp fuse and it promptly blew.

So i took out my frustrations on the trailer. Pulled all the lights off. One was filled with water, i replaced the whole enclosure ($8). then looked at hte wiring...what a freaking mess. it looks like finely shredded wood if stuck up in there. and the wires...oh my god...I replaced what i could see and pulled through new stuff on the rear end only. left them all hanging, and tried it out. looks great!

stayed lit for 15 minutes. so i put it all back together.

tried it out again, and blew the fuse...

So some day soon, i'll be replacing every stinking part of the wires...

Yeah I'd say you have to replace all the wires... I had a short in my boat's trailer and every time I found a break in the wire that was (probably) causing it, I'd find another. If part of the wire is bad, the whole wire could be bad. Not always, but it sounds like your best bet is all new wires, and try to reinforce if there's anywhere it rubs on anything sharp... do it better than factory, you know? Good luck and happy riding...

latest update.

I called SledBed and found they sell replacement harnesses. $80 for the trailer and $20 for the tongue. I jumped on it.

Last night, I pulled al the wires out and found them to be in shambles. 8 years old, so i guess it was time. the new wires went in in a little under an hour.

I also replaced the lights with the LED lights.

After a quick trip, everything seems to be working correctly.

The other thing i found out was there are no wires grounded to the Sled Bed trailers. The trailer relies on the tow vehicles conenction.
