older Collett communicators

I picked up 3 older Collett communicators for $60.00. I'm at work so I don't know the model # but think they were late 80's early 90's. The guy I bought them from found a fourth one and tossed it in for free. Are they worth having or did I waste $60.00? I did find a picture on my work computer

I had a set but didn't like them. Every time you got in the throttle they keyed and all anyone heard was your engine.

We got Chatterboxes several years ago and tried the PTT instead of the VOX, but in real cold temps the buttons would freeze up and not work. We use the VOX now and just set it so it is not so sensitive and talk a little louder when we want it to open up.

The wife and I tried a set of Collette Communicators in the late 90s and they were terrible. We spent more time trying to get them to work than sledding and the range was pathetic. Spark plugs that are non-resistor type cause interference. Use resistor plugs with an R in the number which indicates resistor. ie(BR9ES) We now carry FRS radios. Use em only we have to. It would be nice if someone did make a decent set of hands free comms. For $60.00 though you may want to give them a try.

Thanks I appreciate the info. When I get back to civilization in 3 weeks I will give them a try. That is if we have any snow! I figure I'm not out much so what the heck. My luck they will turn out to be a time consuming PITA and the girlfriend will think she can't ride without them. Isn't that how it usually goes?
