black stuff leaking from my sled :s

hey just went out and moved my skidoo and there was a few black spots left on the ground from my doo . i looked through it and it was seeping through somewhere from underneath . i checked and it seemed to be coming from where the main pipe meets with a little thing that duels off into the engine ... i put my finger there and all black stuff was on my finger ? so whats going on . or is this normal ?

Sounds like the Y Pipe gasket is bad, what you are seeing is the unburnt fuel/oil mix coming out of the carbs. (I think someelse will have a better explanation) but that gasket is bad, not to hard to replace at all...

Yup!!...oil, gas, carbon soot & condensation....really makes a mess when the Y-pipe gasket leaks!! Just get some high-temp silicone (Permatex Ultra Black) & spread a thin coat around the gasket/grayfoil then re-assemble. Let it cure o'nite before you start it.

This is a normal thing but, why is it ewusing oil etc? Is your oil pump set too rich? are you not getting a good burn? are you too rich on the jetting?

This is residue of unburnt oil/gas/soot/moisture combination from not running the engine long enough for the pipe to get properly heated to operating temperature. This will happen every time until the engine is at operating temp.

it is normal, but if it leaking from between the block and the y pipe, you need to replace the gaskets in there..

The block is the main part of the engine. Where the y-pipe connects to.

Ok in that case, you want to check and make sure all the springs are there holding it together, and you may want to order a new inner gasket for that part.

If it is leaking there you have a air leak which will cause the backpressure to be off slightly...
