Flushing Gas Tank

I am beginning a late 2nd round restoration on the TNT, and I have been going right thru it again, but this time addressing parts of the sled I didn’t last time. One of those things is the gas tank. I want to clean the tank out, because I think it’s gummy inside of the tank. I tried removing the tank, but can’t seem to get it out of its wedge, I removed the straps on the tank, and kept pulling as hard as I could, but just couldn’t seem to get the tank out of its slot. There doesn’t seem to be anyway to get it out, because there’s only welded pieces of metal in the way, so what could I to do clean the tank? I will get most of the old fuel out by siphoning, and then shop vaac it clean, but then what could I use to flush it? Could I use water, just as long as it dries properly, or is that too risky? My hope was to be able to just get it right out so I could really clean the inside with a brush, and then dry it, but it's tough to maneuver when it’s stuck in the engine bay.

Well you can if you want a first hand experience with gas fhumes and the spark from a motor coil....

What year tnt is it? Usually once you remove the straps it should slide out. On my doo's it was remove the straps and slide the tank a little foward as there was a lip underit that it slide into.

I must be a lucky man then, I have been shop vaacing gasoline for years On the other note, Dennismc; what you have described is what i have too, its a 1972. It may be tho that the dent on the undercariage is preventing it from sliding out.I just noticed that today
