Tilt Trailer Problems

I bought an R&R covered tilt trailer late last riding season and didn't have time address a couple of issues with it. First, I'd like the trailer to stay in the tilted position when empty. I have seen kits to add what looks like a gas charged shock to both sides of the center beam and those hold up the bed until a sled is loaded. Has anyone done this? It doesn't look hard, but I want to know if it actually work before I spend the coin to get the kit.

Thanks.

I have done that to two trailers, one open and one covered, those units worked perfectly on both trailers, making it easier to tilt both empty and loaded, and keeping the trailer tilted.

That's good to hear, thank you.

This is the kit on eBay:

eBay Motors: DUAL! Motorcycle ATV Snowmobile Trailer Tilt Bed Spring (item 130172543411 end time Nov-16-07 16:35:57 PST)

I don't know if I can find it anywhere cheaper than that.

I also have & R&R covered trailer. There is a gas strut on each side which holds the top up in the best of conditions. When it gets very cold out, they don't always do the job, so I have a 1" sq aluminum bar that is used a prop rod. Always good to have a back-up plan!!

OOPS! Just realized you're talking about the tilt feature, not the cover! DOH!!

I have the struts for the cover too....but those are worn out and do not hold the cover up. I have the alum 1" square bar that does the job. That's the next job I want to do is replace the hatch struts, but I want to do the tilt first.
