What Does "XCR" (Polaris) stand for and represent?

I seen a sled for sale that was a polaris and it said XCR all over it. I googled it and could not find any info on it other than it exists and it has a longer than usual track. If thats the case then how is it diffrent than a SKS?

Thanks

Here is what I am coming up with:

XCR Cross Country Racer (Polaris snowmobile)

So I think thats correct.. but what does it mean is diffrent on the sled?

sks is snow king special

xcr is cross (x) country racer

sks's came with a 133-ish track, xcr's were only 121

you can check the specs on polarisman.com for more info on the particular sled you're looking at.

its a good site, but to be honest. when I seen the XCR I was not impressed.. it sounds like it would be a cool sled.. this thing look exactly like an indy 500. almost no suspension. the only thing I noticed diffrently was it said it required 91 octaine fuel and not to use fuel with ethonal in it. wich is almost imposable to find arround here.

Back when the XCR designation first came out, it was reserved for their race sleds. Back in those days, Polaris used to always say, "we race what we sell and we sell what we race."
I dont know what year XCR you are looking at, but for a long time they were very similar to the regular models, but the difference was Fox gas shocks.
They were around before snocross was really popular and they were designed more for cross-country racing than for pure jumping.

Well, the XCR was a race sled, it was all about going as fast as you can, not about a plush ride.

XCR's were not a good sled imo....suspensions sucked and I always hated the two exchangers on the running boards where they were exposed to rocks and other harmfull things...extremely stupid idea....and the 600 triple's had crank problems...Bad! crank problems....it was as simple as a bearing not getting oil but that same bearing went on every one of them! stupid and very easy to avoid but still a problem...

Yes its still a fast sled. Yes its different than the XLT. The XCR is an 800 triple motor with VES and triple pipes. While the XLT is a 600 triple. The XCR was one of if not the top dog when it was around and is still a force to be reckon with today.

The XCR 800 is one of the fastest sleds ever made. Lots of guys around here get them and fix them up for the open class races.

It depends what year it is. For 2 years ('95 and '96) Polaris made an XCR 600 that was basically an XLT with high-compression heads. I think at that time the XCR 600 SE was the sled that was in the aggressive chassis and came from the factory with triple pipes.
I dont know if its accurate to say the XCR 800 is one of the fastest sleds ever made. It definetly wasnt in the same league as the Thundercat or Vmax-4.
The reason why you see a lot of Polaris guys buying 800 XCRs is because thats pretty much the fastest sled Polaris has ever made. Look at what Polaris replaced the XCR 800 with: the 800 XC and the Fusion 900. From a performance standpoint, those 2 sleds could be considered a step backwards from the XCR 800.

Could you really say a step back tho? So what if there a few m.p.h. slower. I think the indy chassis wasn't exactly the greatest chassis in the world but look at the technology now. Much better suspensions and chassis for that matter.

What about the older XCR 440's? Had the deepest suspension in the Polaris lineup, had a high output 440 to run only on high grade gas, lightweight, strong racey type stuff, and fox shocks all around (see 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996). In 1995, Polaris offered the XCR 600 for the first time. What do you think polaris raced in Snow Cross? XCR's!

As for the running board coolers, NEVER broke one in the 16 years I've been riding them, and they worked fantastic for keeping your feet warm.

I finally got a chance to run my step dads XCR and I like it. It is silly fast. I would like more suspension travel for it then I would love it.
