Ahh Now I remember...

Well it feels like forever, but like i said before i was going to try and disassemble the tnt's engine, but i figured i would try and start the old one first, so i went to NAPA to get some plugs, and when I got back to install them, I kept threading the left side plug and finally remembered what caused me to give up on this thing last year. The left side head has bad threads and the engine was popping the plug right up and out of the head, so I need a new head, and a rebuild kit, I think i want to rebuild this engine now, I just don't want to get a new engine. Any one know where i could find a rebuild kit? Like for everything, I want to gut this thing.

Install a Heli-Coil to repair those plug threads. Easier to do than finding a new head, plus it's a permanent repair (Stainless Steel)!!

No, unfort...I plan to buy it by the end of November, but I had begun to try and take it apart, but I dont got any idea what i am doing, it aint exactly my cup of tea...I basically only know how to make things look nice, change plugs, and mix gas...Other than that i have no idea abouts the internals of an engine, i would just prob mess thing up and loose valuable parts.

Remove the 4 bolts that hold that head on, then bring it to a machine shop and have it helicoiled. Then buy a new head gasket for it and reinstall.

Lightbulb Pattern

I believe these guys will agree with me that the head bolts will also have a certain pattern for the head just like a car. If the pattern is followed you will stand a chance of warping the head. I would also try the Heli-Coil it is cheaper than another motor. You should also buy new head bolts due to the fact its not good to keep retorkeing they tend to stretch after each use

good points, ya I considered that being a problem. I have never done this before, but i was pretty surprised how easy it was to take the head off, the bolts wernt on all that tight, maybe thats just the nature of it, but its was still odd. The nuts on the head bolts were all differnt sizes to, one looked like a lug from a wheel on a car.. Maybe that is supposed to be like that, but it deffinately did not match its siblings.

Thumbs up head bolts

If the head bolts were not that tight that might be why the compression was that low. I would have the head helicoiled and pick up a gasket kit and you will probably be all set. I am just learning sleds to these guys really know their stuff and have been a big help for me to.

Heli-coil.
Drill out the hole to a larger size.
Tap it (cut new threads)
Insert hard'nd steel coil to bring the threads back to the original size.

One nut will look different. It's used to hold something else on sometimes.

Okay, these ones wernt holding anything else, but maybe at some point they were, they look pretty original. Everythings going well, I am surprised, its not too hard, I just want to make sure I dont mess anything up. I stil need to get a torque wrench and a compression tester, other than that its going well. I really appreciate everyone chipping in and helping me out.

Usually there are a couple that are longer so that the shroud can be attached to them rather than having separate holes tapped into the heads.
